That would be fine if he didn't make stuff up. When he talks about MMA I just laugh. He doesn't know anything about it, when fights are happening, etc. but acts like he does.
I liked it when his wife used to pimp that diet commercial calling herself "the mighty wife." I always envisioned mighty dog when I heard that. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/YnAFoigXIpM?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/YnAFoigXIpM?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
I pretty much hate his voice, his tone, his inflection, and his basic viewpoint on most things. The guy is an obvious hack who has found his niche with all the "THE SKY IS FALLING, OH NO WE SUCK AGAIN!" people that live in this city. Now that I think about it, I'm not really sure who I hate more....the "mighty" Gwinn, or his callers.
The dude is trying to find his niche. He's decided to go the Colin Cowheard route with his stupid Major market rating, Major Market team, Football is the God of all sports route. He's a douche and the only person I can't stand on 790. I hope this doesn't last
I listen to Matt and Adam and the. Fire up pandora at 10am. Has anyone heard his Hakeem take? He got taken to task and the next day he back pedaled on those comments like Kareem Jackson. He said something to the point that he was no where near shaq or something like that. Wish I had the audio for that. This guy tries to be zany radio host guy. Go back to Washington dc. No one likes you. I like 790. I like the morning, I like the midday, unlike the afternoon. The only thing I don't like about 790 is that they don't have depth.
He has made fun of Dream, luv ya blu and the Rockets championship intro song...all three times he got destroyed.
I listen to Matt & Adam, then switch to 610 for Josh Innes. If he happens to be especially annoying that day, my backup is 1560. At 11, I go to the FM and listen to Ke$ha/Gaga/Miley/Bieber or whoever the heck is on the hit stations. Screw Rome and Dylan Gwinn. Then to Matt Thomas at 12, and I switch between 610 and 790 until Shaun and Barry/the Rockets game comes on. Obviously I'm not listening all day, but if I were to be constantly listening to sports radio, that's what I would do. If ND Kalu is on 610 in the mornings, I listen to him sometimes.
this reminds me...a few weeks back a guy called in saying, "hey, are you planning on talking about the baseball playoffs?" gwinn's reaction was that football was so overwhelmingly possible that no one would want to hear about the rest. so stop calling it sports radio then. that's a gigantic cop-out.
He thinks baseball isn't popular at all. I'm pretty sure he's compared it to hockey and thinks basketball is more popular (which is not true)
That's a pretty good summation. He's like the worst of those two guys, if that was even possible. It's weird, but Gwinn actually makes Rome appealing to me, and I *hate* Jim Rome. As for toning it down, I don't think he can... because his phony baloney outrage and standoffishness is all he has.
Drive to work: Matt & Adam. Drive to lunch: Jim Rome (Matt Thomas if after 2:00pm). Drive home: Charlie P. In other words, all 790 except when Gwinn is on.
Daytime sportsradio in Houston is terrible. Gwynn is the worst, mostly because of his voice which is like nails on a chalkboard. Not to mention, like others have said, all he does is try to ruffle everyone's feathers. Matt Thomas is a little better, but his show just doesn't appeal to me. I can listen to Rome if he's actually talking about something relevant and not going off in a tangent that you have to know 15 years of background on the Jim Rome show to understand. Matt & Adam and Pallilo FTW.
