First Yao flop I can remember. I think he finally had enough of other bigs flopping on him left and right and giving the refs the opportunity to call really really weak fouls against Yao. The look on MoTay's face was priceless: Hey wait a minute ref. I'm supposed to be flopping on Yao! Not the other way around!
That's a good line, even if not technically true. Here's what JVG had to say on the subject: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/3660569.html
I was at the NY game when Tracy couldn't throw it in the ocean and the big man carried the team. I was more impressed that night than any other game I've seen him play and that was against some big bodies in Curry and James. He kicked their ass on D..... without jumping. Since he can't jump anyway maybe that's one way to reduce his fouls. And Kelly, the new Donald Fegan CD is our March 7th!
what pisses me off is the media ripping him when they weren't expecting him to do much in the first place. really. how many of them thought he'd be this good? now that he's getting 20 and 10, they're saying, "oh, he'll never be 25 and 12." **** the haters.
Doug Collins and Hubie Brown (2 of the smartest commentators on TV) are the other guys with alot of respect for Yao.
It's B.S. Yao is one of the few Chinese bballers who has no age controversies. Since both of his parents were relatively famous basketball players, Yao's birth was reported in the newspapers. His real birthday in 1980 is well documented as a result.
m_cable is right. Yao is one of the few (only?) chinese basketball players whose age is never in doubt - due to the relative fame of his parents. The emailer is correct though - most Chinese players, the usual exercise to get their correct age is to add two.
It's said by the e-mailer that there's two birth certificates for one athelete to use in different international contests. What a brilliant idea! and why stop at two? why not make it 10 birth certificates for one athlete? People sure ain't gonna keep a record and tell the age difference of one athlete in different international contests. What a moron.
Kelly - I sent that e-mail at the suggestion of Richard Gere, who speaks to me through the TV screen whenever I watch his films.
