The country's government/agencies can't even get it right, so it's not surprising the league hasn't been able to do it as a whole. That's why individuals have to do their own thing. Like any other business, it's full of "yes" people and people who aren't qualified enough, but got the job because they knew a guy or climbed the ladder because of tenure.

Some people just have good genetics. Plus they get a lot of exercise.

You'd be surprised at the amount of professional athletes who eat junk all the time.

You can still look aesthetically pleasing even while eating unhealthy food if you get enough exercise. It's calories in / calories out.

The bad thing about eating unhealthy is that it is unhealthy for your body... it doesn't necessarily mean you will look bad on the outside.

Having the amount of muscle Dwight has also means his body is constantly burning energy. Its why the Rock can eat 5000 calories a day without gaining a significant amount of bodyfat. Combination of clean bulk diet and exercise.

He's not that muscular. Thin legs, thin forearms, average chest for a pro athlete. He over works his delts and possibly his lats, so they grow. I'm sure he still ate a lot of other "real" food, but even trash food can contain calories and protein to help build muscle. As a pro athlete, he's still burning a ton of calories on a daily basis.

Let's put an end to all this "howard is so muscular" talk. Dwayne Johnson faints every time it's mentioned. :p

Sorry if this has been mentioned, but...

    from the article:
*what*? His MFA in fiction or poetry helps him talk nutrition. LOL -- what does that say about his advice exactly?

Maybe that weird bit of info is an inside joke?

He works out, and genetics play a role as well probably.

Being healthy and being ripped aren't exactly tied together. You can be healthy and not have much muscle, and you can be unhealthy and look like the hulk like Howard.

    1. A shot from the side like that is probably one of the most un-appealing angles to get a sense of how muscular somebody is.

    2. The Rock is on so much gear his head is going to explode one of these days.

Worst part about shopping food in America is the fact that a majority of our food is processed. And the organic food is pretty expensive nowadays. We're essentially experiments for the bigger food companies that use pesticides, GMO, and other unhealthy practices in the foods that are then sold wholesale. Dwight has the fortune of all these experts around him checking is blood levels, heart rate and nutritional intake.

Like i said, he trains the f out of his shoulders and maybe even his biceps, possibly lats, although i can't see those too well. I'm not going to pretend he's a walking hulk because he trains 2-3 upper body muscle groups.

The Rock is a much better example of what a well proportioned muscular person should look like from top to bottom:

I was trying to get them in a similar pose to show the difference in leg size compared to their upper bodies. shows enough to prove my point.

Regardless of what the Rock is on, his body is much better balanced. He still has to put in the work. Dwight isn't balanced, but what he does train makes him look bigger than he is. The Rock has packed on a lot of mass, so don't focus too much on his size for this comparison.

Can you guys take this discussion to the Hangout section? I have had my limit of men without shirts for the day.

"No ____ is way more ripped brah"

This is what a real man looks like:

That picture shows everything but his shoulders and his biceps are stretched.

Not sure what there is to talk about here. Is it not clear his shoulders are much bigger? Isn't that what everyone talks about? "Look at his shoulders."

Is he still muscular? Yeah. Is he hulk-like or massive muscularly, like people seem to imply? No. He just has a ton of surface area because of his height/length. Shrink him down to make him more comparable and he's built more like an average wide receiver/corner. People act like he's a Greg Jones or James Casey. He's not. That's why he gets pushed out of the post so easily and bounces off of defenders.

It's very possible for him to be under 6%, btw. 8-10 would be a lot for Dwight.

You said you were trying to show their upper bodies compared to their legs.

Dwight's legs match the rest of his build.

And his shoulders aren't big like they used to be.

No way Dwight is 5% or less. I would estimate he's around 10%.

Here are a couple pretty accurate pictures:

Here is my rule when using the eye test:

Most athletes in great shape are around 10%. You can see defined abs, cut muscles, etc. You aren't going to get less than that unless you are specifically training to have super-low body fat like a body builder would.

7% or so is absolutely shredded. Their skin almost looks "thin" from the low body fat.

5% or so makes you say holy crap. Tons of veins, you can see the striations and separation of the individual muscles.

On the other end of the spectrum...

15% or so you can just *barely* see the abs still. You still see some definition.

20% you don't see any abs. But they don't have a "spare tire", either.

25% you start seeing a spare tire.

Above that I don't even know.
