knicks should have jumped in and made an offer for lin from the get go.. if they knew they wanted him no matter the price they had the opportunity to pay him and set the terms of his deal, they laid back and tried to let the market determine his value knowing they would match, until morey stuck their ass with a poison pill and now theyre butt hurt over it..

but lol at pathetic GM, if morey was running the knicks theyed be the team to beat out in the east right now, working on a dynasty.. must be nice to have the overrated "allure" of the garden and new york to fall back on..

I understand what you are saying, but common sense and Morey's history should be enough to tell us that we wouldn't take back four "bad contracts" (not all are as horrible as they're made out to be, either), give up all our draft picks and all our rookies, have to waive all our non-guaranteed guys - just to get the deal done.

Especially when we have the recent history of what Carmelo and Deron Williams brought when they were traded. And the teams trading those guys had MUCH better options than what Orlando has at this point.

Again, I can understand what you are saying, but you have to admit some of the posts are extremely immature, irrational, uninformed, and just plain ridiculous.

"Just do something - anything - get a superstar or tank... we're just tired of living in mediocrity.... Morey never takes risks....we'll never attract stars to come here without a superstar....etc, etc.".

Well, this move is doing almost everything - going all in on a "possible" rental (and I do NOT believe he'd leave - too much money and Morey is too good at bringing in complimentary players/second tier stars and he has limited choices). He either stays and Morey builds around him, or we trade him for where we are right now - young players and picks - and/or a couple of borderline stars - or Bynum.

It's a no lose situation (as long as it wasn't taking four bad contracts, giving up all three draft picks and three first round picks and two second round picks). See how absurd that sounds? Would never happen.

 

You might reconsider. It looked like a handful of members freaking out, all of whom had 20,000+ posts (and I looked at my post count and freaked!). I have a feeling you would last about 2 minutes before being booted. And I wouldn't blame them a bit. We do that here, but with well over 40,000 members, it's very, very hard for the mods to keep track of that, although I think they do a great job under trying circumstances.

Honestly, I'm surprised that the thread is only 4 pages long. Surely there are some far more active Knicks blogs out there. I got a kick out of reading their rage. Here's a quote:

I really may just let Lin walk. I wanted Lowery more if we could have got him. And honestly Jeremy will never be able to play his whole humble pie role again. I think the Rockets and Lin both hurt their word and dignity doing this.

Oh, they are going bonkers. A continuing thread, however, is near absolute conviction that Dolan will pay to match Lin's deal. There are a couple of comments that attempted to bring some sanity into the conversation, pointing out the restrictions on the Knicks future deals, the luxury tax hit being far more than many expect it to be, but nearly everyone blows that huge tax hit off. Be interesting to see if Dolan will. Odds are good that they match, but far from 100%, in my opinion.

 

Hennigan is walking in circles. If there was a better deal out there he would have made it by now. Since Dwight won't sign an extension except with the Nets, all he's going to get are rental prices.

Now I'm a bit worried... I'm not so sure that this will be enough for Hannigan to stop talking with other teams and that we'll be out of the running for Howard... as he's searching for the 'best possible deal'.

In all honesty, the players we're giving up, in the format the poster of this put it in, I don't have a problem with but we're giving up too few draft picks... JUST the Toronto pick? I see us giving up a couple more. At least one more first rounder (or the two 2nd rounders we got from the Camby trade).

I know Morey is Morey (and ultimately he gets what he wants or at least meets at a medium of some sort) but... I dunno... I am hoping for the best though! (not trying to sound negative here, just thinking realistically here).

It's going to be a LONG week for us Rockets fans... In Morey I Trust!

morey, more than anybody here knows Orlando is in a tough position. Do we really think Orlando is going to let Dwight walk AND be stuck with those contracts? Keep hard balling.

 

Awesome news. No matter what (Dwight or no Dwight) we've got a full youth movement on our hands, with the Scola amnesty.

I'm sure that if Kevin Martin isn't part of a deal to bring Dwight in, he gets shipped off anyway to make room for Lamb and the other young guns. Great decision, regardless of the outcome with DH12 we wil FINALLY have the direction we've been looking for the past 2 years.

It may be more, but it's still enough. Hennigan wants a Carmelo deal but he signed an extension. When Deron Williams was traded, it was for a promising young player in Favors and a draft pick.

Exactly. Plus the longer he waits the less leverage he has. The more time goes by the less people are going to offer. Extending this out for too long will hurt them more than it hurts us.

Offers are NOT going to get better the closer it gets to the NBA season. Teams are going to want to time to work on Dwight and his camp to convince them to stay afterwards.
