    Chris Broussard on ESPN 07-17-2012:

CB: I was just told literally by a source close to Dwight Howard, recently with the last half an hour ago that Dwight has not yet committed on LA or any other team. He still, believe it or not, has his mind set on Brooklyn.

Host: Is the only way for Dwight to get to Brooklyn is to starts the season with Orlando?

CB: Yes, or if Dwight is traded to Houston then he could ask to be traded again to Brooklyn before the trade deadline. But I don't see Houston doing that. But Dwight hasn't realized that yet. He still thinks if he holds out on "Brooklyn or Bust", that he would get to Brooklyn sooner than later, and that he could still be traded to Brooklyn during the season.

    (Continuation)

CB: I would think Dwight would soften his stance on the Lakers. For one, he's long wanted to play with Steve Nash. And whatever he can get in Brooklyn, he can get in LA. He wants the market, he wants Hollywood. I think he will eventually soften on the Lakers. He only has 2 realistic options right now, and that's Houston or LA.

Q: What does Kobe think about this?

CB: Kobe has enough confidence in his team that he'll like to get Dwight, but Kobe won't go out of his way to send the wrong message to Andrew Bynum. Kobe has gained a lot of respect for Bynum in the last few years.

Q: Dwight's been in LA, is he warming up to playing in LA?

CB: Dwight's been out in LA since he got his surgery. Dwight loves living in LA no question about it, but for some reason he has his heart set playing in Brooklyn. But he has to be warming up to some degree to the Lakers. I think at the end of the day, Dwight's he's going to eventually end up with the Lakers.

    (Continuation)

CB: Bynum is not committing to Orlando or anywhere, like Dwight, because it's a smart financial move. He is not signing an extension becuase it's not a smart business move, but Orlando doesn't want to take that chance which is why they also want to get draft picks.

Q: How long do you see the Dwight Howard trade go on?

CB: If Orlando can get Andrew Bynum, they would like, they would like that deal. But why do it now? Orlando is not in a hurry to pull the trigger because know they have at least until September before I really have to trade him, or if worse comes to worse, they can keep him in the season until the trade deadline, but I don't think they'll wait that long. It's the other teams who are more in a rush to pull a deal than Orlando.

Real GM is always good for some laughs. Here's what one poster thought was a fair deal.

Howard has warmed to the possibility of joining the Lakers after spending his offseason in Los Angeles, sources said, but remains apprehensive about following in the footsteps of Shaquille O'Neal, who left the Magic for Los Angeles 16 years ago.

Man Howard is a FLAKE!!! He might be flaky enough to give up 30 million to go to Brooklyn. I'm really starting to hope we stop chasing this unworthy mental midget. If THE HOUSTON ROCKETS aren't good enough for him to agree to an extension then he can go **** himself.

Christ almighty! We take on all that crap, give up two of our first round rookies, give up a boatload of picks and we don't even get Howard? Are you sure this isn't a Magic fan?

Does Lin's trade restriction end on Dec or Jan 15?

Would replacing Martin with Lin in a trade package make it more attractive to the Magic?

    Dwight?

Now that we have Lin,does this make a trade for Dwight more or less likely?

I could see Morey going hard for the homerun and bring in Dwight to top it off.

Why oh why does Dwight still wanting to go to Brooklyn? They just picked up JJ and gave a max to fricking brook lopez! They should be maxed out with all of those contracts plus DWill's! Is DHo for real? NY has state and fed income tax, cost of living is borderline ridiculous, actually scratch that, it is outrageously ridiculous. The only plus I see him getting out of this is endorsement money which isn't even a significant factor because I think the Rockets, now with Lin, have the Chinese/global market at their disposal. Is Dwight's agent saying anything about this??! I honestly don't get why he wants Brooklyn.

Meh I'd be fine with getting Bynum. We could probably get Bynum in a double sign & trade after the season is over if we want, though.

It's hilarious that the Lakers pretty much need the Rockets at this point, and many media members think we are just going to hand them Dwight Howard. Only in LA.

That girl must be a giant.

Also, screw Laker fans. The rest of the league has no leverage on us now. If we make zero moves before the start of the season we will have a clear direction, and that would be a tremendously entertaining and hot-ticket lottery team, the most high profile 20-62 team in NBA history with a future top 3 pick coming its way.

If we trade for Dwight instead, that would be gravy. But there's no way in hell we are caving in because we NEED a trade to go down. Funk Dat.

The only problem with this statement is that I don't see any way this team goes 20-62 with Jeremy Lin at the helm, or gets a top 3 pick without getting very lucky. I see us winding up squarely mediocre, more around #10 seed in the lottery. Especially if we land Asik.

I agree we have plenty of leverage right now in trade talks, though.
