No matter who the frontrunner is, the Rockets are not insignificant. Until Lopez is eligible to be traded, they still have the deal to beat. And may still have it then.

And If ORL wanted Lopez they would have traded for him. The main reason they didn't want him is his Max contract that just doesn't make sense for a rebuilding team.

Well said. They didn't trade for him because they liked Houston's offer better, why would that change in the next 6 months.

I think if ORL waits, it will be because they would hope Howard would say he is open to more teams, which could create a bidding war and thus yield the Magic more tools to rebuild.

I love how they always end it with something like this to cover their asses. No matter what the conclusion, they can say "See! I knew it!".

Thats not true at all. A max contract Lopez does not interest the Magic.

So...the Dwight thing no longer a hot topic because the Rocket's are the front runners? Weird seeing things like the summer league on ESPN NBA homepage. Where is all the speculation?!

Stephen A. called the Heat trio before anyone and now he is going to coast on that for the rest of his career, sitting there spouting off BS to the masses.

Ok so we trade for Howard and we get Lin and keep the cap space to offer 2 max contacts next season (Howard + 1 more). Lin plays up to expectations and Howard is his usual self. We make the playoffs and are bounced in the 2nd round. The offseason begins!!

We make the max offer to Howard and his buddy Josh Smith but before he signs Chris Paul tells the Clippers sign and trade me to Houston or I will take their max contact offer before Josh Smith does. We offer J. Lin, Hedo's expiring and DMo. Clippers thinking that's a decent offer, accept with Lin being a decent replacement for someone they could lose for nothing. Before we make the that S&T we sign Howard and J. Smith to max contracts the get Paul with the S&T. Wishful thinking but damn fun envision.

    PG Paul
    SG ???
    SF Parsons
    PF J. Smith
    C Howard

You are assuming that we keep both Dmo and Parsons in a Howard deal? That wont happen.

Why does anyone waste their time with ESPN? They're like the sports version of Fox News.

You forgot that we actually didnt have to give up Lamb to acquire Howard. They really wanted White and Jones instead.

    Paul
    Lamb
    Parsons
    Smith
    Howard

    Dynasty.

I think the deal is basically held up because the Rockets need to go through their offering of Asik/Lin their contracts. Personally, I hope both doesn't get matched to shore up our PG and backup-C positions. But in any case I think the Howard deal gets pushed through.

And one weird thing is that Howard hasn't expanded his list yet now that NJ is basically out. If he really, really hate the Rockets then he should technically tell everyone how he may consider other teams but not Houston. So the lack of talking from Dwight's side suggest they want to keep his trade value as low as possible. This is certainly good news in the sense that Howard gets more of a chance to play for a contender. If the Rockets can keep a good chunk of their youngsters after the trade, then they can easily swing for more trades, perhaps a Josh Smith deal that would instantly make us contender for best defensive team next year.

    It can actually happen.

    My trade prediction..

Kmart,Lamb,Jones,Patterson or Morris, and 2 future 1st rd picks
    For
Dwight and a couple of bad contracts. I'm guessing Dwight,Jrich, and Davis or Duhon

Worry about getting Dwight first before you start putting your superteams together. :p

Why not think a few moves ahead? Chess vs. Checkers.

Is this speculation or you actually did hear Lamb is probably not going to be part of the deal for Dwight? I thought Lamb was most suredly included...

Honest question here. Why are you so confident the Howard deal will get pushed through for the Rockets?

And what if it doesn't happen?

Rockets felt the deal that didn't happen last year w/ Gasol set them back three years.*

    *According to Woj.

Well my point was why not speculate about the thinking of a GM. Of course he's trying to get Dwight, but what else is he going to do? I was simply faulting you for discounting the talk of a superteam when I think that guy made a valid point. I think it is conceivable that if we get Dwight (I'll give you that it's a big if), there could be potential for other moves.
