McGrady had no work ethic. Yao was just too damn tall and too heavy.

People underestimate the alternatives to Dwight.

    1) Go with the rookies and tank to get some of the superstar-potential draftees coming up like Wiggins. Do what OKC did and build from the ground up, draft guys who actually would want/love to play here. Durant was the perfect example of this. He was brought up in OKC basically (yeah Seattle too for a bit) and now loves it claiming 'i want to end my career here'.

    2) Go for Bynum and pay less. Get Lakers to give up some assets (McRobers/Ebanks/Eyenga, ect) and have them take some salary back too. Keep the rookies you want and build for the future with a guy who is very much more willing to stay.

Don't get me wrong. I completely understand how the acquisition of Howard completely changes a teams competitiveness. Adding Howard to any team instantly makes them a whole lot better. I don't buy into the bad attitude meme that has been floated around by the media either. But his back worries me.

Some people would never make it in business with this passive aggressive approach.

What OKC did is very rare. Chances are we would be going down the path of the Pacers as opposed to OKC. Also, I don't know who is more of a healthy risk Howard or Bynum. Howard is a much better talent and this is his first major injury unlike Bynum who can't stay healthy and is only 24.

In your dreams yes but in reality he will be a UFA with multiple teams after him

That has nothing to do with this. There are risks on both sides of the arguements, so can't really say one side is risk averse and the other isn't. Plus some just don't like Dwight, oh and it's not our business. :p

My point exactly. To be great, you have to take risks. And for someone's position of not wanting to trade for Dwight is because "he doesn't like us" is a really weak position to take.

I look to win. If we were going to tank, we'd have done it by now.

After better understanding how the new CBA works, I think Morey is doing the right thing by aggressively pursuing The Dwightmare. I still don't think you give up DMo or Lamb if you think they have allstar talent; we're going to need good players on long-term cheap contracts to offset the bad one's we are taking back, as well as to be more competitive. But I think Dwight's worth the risk. I thought he was 28, but 26 is young enough to work with our youth-movement. I trust Morey to get his man while not giving up the farm.

And as far as him not wanting to come to Houston, I guess I'm heartened by the fact that he's actually never said so publically, so even if he ends up here it doesn't have to get ugly.

What about those that want to take the risk on some young guys and think they could turn into something great along with some high draft picks? Why are people to scared to take that risk?

You go for what's proven, not for what something "could" be. I'm tired of all this potential talk that's been going on for years and has gotten them nowhere.

Great post. Thorpe was at fault. SVG did all he could with the roster.

What about his injury????????????????:confused::confused: People just dismiss the fact that he just had BACK SURGERY and he runs and JUMPS for a living. He may never be the same player. I speak from experience with back problems and surgeries. It is WAY to big of a risk to give up a lot for him without seeing him play.

We haven't had potential in years, we've had mediocre players with limited upside. These guys, to me at least are showing a lot more up side.

All the Greene, Langhi potential posts coming in 3, 2, 1.....
