DUMB - exactly why I cant stand hoopsworld

Morey wouldnt touch that terrible contract of Gay and I am sure he would be willing to roll the dice on the PFs we drafted at a rookie scale than Josh Smith's contract.

I mean Josh Smith is a great player - but he is a lot like Lowry imo in the sense that if you team has that star its a player you definitely want on your team because he can help you go from like 50 wins to 56-58 wins, but if he is your best player there are huge problems.

if the team is going to rebuild there would be no reason to straddle itself with the albatross of a contract that is Rudy Gay (again IMO the worst contract in basketball after Joe Johnson)

I'd rather just roll with our rookies and see what we can get with the toronto draft pick and if we can sign any FA outright with the capspace we'll have next season

yeah i just don't buy it. I think our owner sees a lot of potential in our rookies, and much more so than a month ago when Kennedy reported this. If we don't get dwight or bynum, we may make a minor trade to clear some minutes for the youngsters, but I don't see Les and Daryl deciding to squander our young talent and cap space on tier 2 vets, so we can continue the 14th pick tradition. Maybe it's wishful thinking, but i finally think they get it.

because they don't want to be bogged down with large overvalued contracts. Yeah, they'd be expiring at some point and have value, but name expiring contracts on contending teams that dwight would want to go to that you think the magic would want to pickup. You keep forgetting the fact that THEY WANT TO DEVELOP YOUNG PLAYERS. By getting veterans it will suck away from their PT. They would keep cap space because flexibility is very important to a rebuilding team so that once they have enough young assets they can do what we're doing (getting assets at low cap value). They don't want large contracts that are difficult to be moved.

Maybe this is Morey saying that he has interest in other people besides Dwight. Maybe he is trying to show Henny that he has other options as a negotiating tactic.

Ingram is a clown that just throws crap against the wall to see what sticks. He gets most of his stuff by playing around with the NBA Trade Machine and the test he dreams up. He has no legitimate sources.

I do think Morey will take a shot with Gay, Howard and Lin. Gay could be had cheap. Cap space will be useless next season. There are only 2 prime Free agents: Howard and Chris Paul. If we give up on trading for Howard we stand no chance at signing him next season. We need his Bird rights.

You have a very structured thought process.

I'm not sure why a team is forced to play veterans over rookies if they don't have to, but then again I'm not privy to 'The Unspoken Rules of Team Management' handbook.

But, I'll just put forward that there will be teams with cap space, which may or may not include Orlando, that will deal with cash/cap strapped teams for a price. If Morey thinks Hennigan is that kind of GM, he may want to at least block their opportunities for one more year.

Remember the tweet I posted was from a month ago.

I posted it as a reference of players Morey would be interesting in surrounding Howard with. Morey wants to attract Big free agents and I think He'll risk trading for ugly contracts to solidify Howard staying.

All it took for Deron Williams to re-sign with BK was trading for Joe Johnson so why not try the same with Dwight?

Actually it's 30 days from when he signed so he can be traded...in about 2 weeks.

Iguodala I'd believe. He doesn't make my nuts bubble, but I like his game.

Rudy Gay? A lot of money for 17 points, 6 rebounds, whatever whatever a game. And a long contract.

Josh Smith? Seems semi-pointless. He's a 4. We now have cheaper solutions. Besides, he's an expiring, in case Atlanta wants to start over; why not dream bigger and see if you could pry Horford (center-power forward) loose? (Atlanta won't do it, but they'd have lots of cap room next summer if they took KMartin + picks/whatever.)

I think Harden could be had for the max next summer. I don't think OKC can afford him.

Smith if we traded for him would be because he's Howard's friend in addition to being a really good player. Best way to convince Dwight to stay? Surround him with those of his buddies who also happen to be good at basketball. I wouldn't mind building around a Lin/Smith/Howard "big three" at all, considering Morey's ability to find excellent roleplayers for virtually nothing.

Donatas Motiejunas will leave in a Josh Smith deal.
Terrence Jones and Jeremy Lamb will leave in a Dwight Howard deal.

    :)

Honestly, this discusion of Rudy Gay or Andre Igudala belongs in the random trade discussion thread because that's all it is. This is no rumor at all, it's just a fabrication of Bill Ingram playing fantasy GM and then tweeting it as if he actually has a source (which he most clearly does not) and then being retweeted by Sam Amick.

Let me know when there is at least one creadable source that says the Rockets are discussing a trade with Memphis for Gay. Until then please put this discussion where it belongs.... Random Trade Discussions
