Have you seen how fat Yao has gotten? He was having trouble keeping his feet from fracturing when he weighed a lot less.
I don't think Dwight has much improvement left in his post game. H'es trained with Hakeem in the past, though in a somewhat more limited basis. That said, if consistent training with Hakeem and McHale, combined with Dwight's return to 100% health, somehow makes a CLEAR and OBVIOUS improvement in Dwight's game, even if just slight enough to get a couple buckets more a game, then I will start to put a LOT more stock into these types of training sessions. Clearly, Lebron improved his post game post Hakeem training. I think Kobe did as well, that I wouldn't say that was clearly. And even with Lebron, I think it's a function of him focusing on it both in the offseason and then during the games as much as anything. I think with enough focus, Lebron could do anything on the court better than almost anyone. With the rest, I'm not so sure. This isn't a reflection on Hakeem. I think without a doubt he is providing top notch instruction, SPECIFICALLY as it relates to the nuances and details of post up play. Where to hold the ball, how to use the pivot foot, how to react to the defenders balance, when to swing inside and face up, when to swing around and face up, when to simple realize your defender is off balance and steamroll... whatever. It's more a reflection on the capabilities of those being taught. Anyway... I sincerely hope that Dwight becomes even a little more fluid in his post game, and improves that part of his offense.
I think there will be a big difference now that Hakeem is going to spend the entire year with him as opposed to before when he spent like one week with him that one time. He showed some short term improvement after the first set of workouts with the Dream, I think a whole season with him could show serious improvement.
I think the biggest change will be his attitude. Dwight is always afraid to make a mistake so he doesn't try to be creative. I think it has to do with strict upbringing and SVG overbearing coaching style. In Houston, he will be allowed and encouraged to expand his game. When he feels that he can just be himself on the court, he will flourish.
There are little things to notice that show Dwight is still not mechanically close to Dream's level. Dwight basically scoops the ball in at the rim, while dream carries it over the rim to lay it in.
You will see a vast improvement in DH12's low post game pimpn. He will be working with the Dream and McHale verses a week with Dream. Thats two of the greatest low post players to play this game. I also think the young man is hungry. So it back, sip on a few colds one and enjoy the season..
how lucky is dwight?! he's got 2 of the all time greats to ever play at the post position mentoring him... he better learn!!!!!!!!!!!!!
both mchale and olajuwon have much better foot work than dwight, but their styles are much different than dwight. dwight is more of a power player, not as finesse as those two. so he may become stronger in some areas and weaker in other areas of his game in comparison to mchale and olajuwon. it will be interesting to see what strengths he will develop under them. i think he has a lot of room for improvement, i would like to see him become more finesse with his post moves.
Dudes this is like Yoda and Mace Windu teaching a Luke Skywalker... (no disrespect to Ben Knobi)... If Dwight gets even get 25% of what they are teach, look the *bleep* out!!!
He came out as a high schooler. If he had gone to college with a good big man coach,he may have emerged as a mature center.
I'm not sure how much improvement one can get from one week of instruction. It's like becoming better from going to a basketball camp. Basketball camps are fun, but you won't improve a great deal just from attending.
