SMH at those giving PGabs grief for offering up his theory. The God has my back no matter what card is extremely annoying.

I agree with you premise in the abstract, but I would not say it is necessarily just African American. I have known a number of children of Preachers (typically evangelical) and they rely on the " God is on my side" or "Daddy will take care of it" style of reasoning. It especially true in communities or denominations that hold Preachers at a high level.

What I find more odd is this idea that Howard was a saintly religious man simply because it was a good story and his family was involved in the Church. Howard has broken team rules, dated and impregnated cheerleaders, dated pornstars, thrown teammates under the bus and lied to the face of his coach. He may not be a criminal, but he has issues, even if he doesn't think he does.

He didn't tone it down when he was talking to celebrities during a timeout in the all star game, missed a play called for him and was chewed out with F-bombs by Pops.

That reminds me of a joke:
A pious man is caught in a flash flood. The water is rising and he gets to his roof. A boat comes by and the person in the boat ask the man to get in. The pious man says "No thanks. God will save me." The water keeps on rising. A few minutes later a helicopter flies overhead. They yell down with a bullhorn "Sir do you need help?" The pious man answers "No thanks. God will save me." The water keeps on rising and finally the pious man is drowned. He finds himself in Heaven and ask God. "I have been a pious man all my life so why didn't you save me?" God replies "I tried, I sent a boat and helicopter. What were you expecting?"

I don't see why people love to rag on and gripe about the religious beliefs of others. In the end, one or more groups will be right and the others will be wrong. And no one will be around to say: "I told you so."

What's it to you if someone chooses to thank and trust in God?

    My soapbox

Like someone has said, you are so full of crap. What kind of Christians do you meet in your daily life? Do you go to church prayer session? The Christians that I know are often very critical of themselves. They always admit their wrongdoings to God and ask for forgiveness.
