Yes Dream, has worked with Yao extensively through Carroll Dawson. As stated previously, Yao's footwork is no where near Dream's and requires a higher level of athleticism to accomplish what Dream is teaching. He did show Yao how to power through, up and under, and a serious right hand jump hook. Plus Yao's size kills Dwight Howard, especially with Dwight trying to post up Yao. Dwight needs to take a page from Garnett vs. Gasol and take Yao on the wing and try to blow by him. However, our defensive help is off the chart when centers try that against Yao.
Yeah, Dwight's footwork and agility are both pretty good. His footwork + speed + strength get him his dunks. He has no hope with his touch though. I don't see how Hakeem can help Dwight improve his touch. He can make his footwork be amazing though.
Actually Yao's has shown lighting fast decision making many times. Check out the moves at 40 sec mark and at the 2:33 mark. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/r8STO24L_NY&hl=en_US&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/r8STO24L_NY&hl=en_US&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> Yao's body type is very different from Dream's but that doesn't mean there isn't stuff Yao can, and has, pick up Dream.
Not only did video really want this season with Yao to start soon, but it made me miss Calvin Murphy as a Rocket's announcer...
Those are called "top ten plays" for a reason. Obviously there will be some times his decision making is quick but that is far from the norm, or else plays like above would be considered nothing special, just like dunks from DH or smooth moves from Gasol. If Yao was an extremely quick decision maker he wouldn't be embarrased by teams like GS or PHX which try to out-quick him every time.
Just to add to this almost all of those plays happened before Yao Ming broke his foot the first time. If he can regain that agility and quickness he lost from that first break then maybe we can have a conversation.
Does anybody know whether or not Hakeem has worked or plans on working with Jordan Hill? I think he is a guy who would reap benefits for working with a guy like Hakeem. Very agile and athletic and has a nice touch with the ball. I think with more playing time and working with Hakeem, his game could improve dramatically. Thoughts?
Good for DHoward... I have no doubt he will be better offensively if he continues to work on what Hakeem is teaching him... now he just needs to work on his free throws
#4 of the Top 10 made me lol so hard. As far as Hakeem and Dwight, I hope they work alot more on Howard's offensive game. 18 ppg for someone of his caliber is not cutting it.
Given the way fouls are called now, i doubt anyone could even potentially come close to his blocking record, they used to allow a lot more contact, these days if its not a perfectly clean block, it's a foul.
When the hell are the Rockets gonna bring Calvin back as an announcer? I gotta see the smile on his lips!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Every time this vid has been posted on the board over the years I watch it in it's entirety. It's just that awesome.
Agreed. Reading this story about Dwight Howard has really made me respect him more as a player. I've always appreciated how he's taken the high road when Shaq tried to engage him in dumb macho arguments. If he had even a moderate amount of touch on his jump shot, he'd be completely unstoppable.
