Wait, how can you have a torn meniscus and not tell anybody about it? Was it diagnosed by a non-team doctor or something?

MCL, not ACL. MCL is much less serious. Marc Gasol missed ~5 weeks after tearing his.

If this is real and he hasn't had surgery I'm surprised by two things. One, there wasn't a leak of this to the media. Two, how the heck did he not get surgery for anything torn in his knee?

Anyways, I sure hope he got everything fixed and it's good to know he will always give it a go (he ain't no soft center, that's for sure) but it is something to note he had yet another breakdown on his body.

All sprains are technically tears, so the question would be whether or not it was a partial or complete tear. Maybe this is why he went on vacation instead of practicing during the offseason; to let his body heal up. I am interested however, in whether or not he had surgery.

Oh God. I got goose-bumps on hearing this. Dwight didn't have to do that.

Now I can understand why Morey is not high on Josh Smith.

    j/k on the last sentence.

Maybe he mentioned it to Smith and Smoove took offense to that. Next thing you know he's like well I won't be there to hurt you anymore Dwight... Damn.

If Dwight isn't gonna be there in the beginning of the season, then what? DMo should be ready to go. It'll be up to Capela and DMo to seriously hold the frontline together. It's going to be ugly with just Capela in there due to his limited offense.

I tore my meniscus, it came good by itself. Depends where it's torn and how bad.

Prediction: Dwight will not be on the court in the playoffs. I'm sorry to say that, but he's aging and knee-damaged and prone to injuries. We were extremely lucky to get him back in time for last year's run. We'd better be ready to play without him.

If that's the case trade him for somebody comparable straight up already.

Dwight is a warrior before this was known, anyone who criticizes this man is an intentional idiot (bspn).

Prediction: Howard plays fewer minutes during the regular season and his statistics go down, but plays very well and extended minutes in the playoffs. Dwight Howard has a high pain threshold and the last few years has gotten a whole lot better at positioning and using his body and strength to play well.

It's an MCL not ACL. Relax guys, if anyone is soft is drose he had a torn meniscus as well and missed a season. Dwight is fine. Smith did roll up on Dwight pretty bad and was obviously not the same. It makes sense now. I wish he would've told mchale though so he wouldn't be playing so much minutes, but that shows how much he wants to win. Capella is coming along well so hopefully HE stays healthy so we can rest Dwight on back to backs and my postseason.....it's GO TIME

    wow!!!

They would have been grade 1 or 2 ? because it would have been impossible for him to play if he had completely teared his MCL. BUT! What a pain tolerance!

And when he says he didn't tell anyone, he meant the press ofcourse  Did you really think that the team didn't know?

Anyone who says that Dwight is soft should just STFU. I would like to see you go and play competitive sports on that condition under that much pain!

As for surgery for the meniscus is not always needed and the recovery times vary a lot in athletes because there different procedures. That's why i.e Rose first time or MacRoberts took so long but the second time it took only about a month. In the second case they removed it completely the first was arthroscopic repair.

Honestly...I tend to agree. This board underrates how worrisome Dwight's health is.

I think any talk of Dwight being soft, is more hype than reality. He's been hurt and tried to play hurt, when he was in LA, but Kobe was frustrated and started mouthing off to the media. Of course LA is media capital and the word got out. Was it accurate? Nope.

Dwight played with his injury and did everything he could to play there. He barely missed any time.

Dwight played hurt here, but sadly his aches were looked at differently because he'd acquired the reputation of a soft player even if it wasn't deserved, so the perception for some was already tinted against Dwight. He showed up in the playoffs last year, and against the Blazers.

Dwight wants to win. Unfortunately his legitimate injuries are against him, as was some of his decision making regarding fouls in the playoffs last year. But none of it is because he's soft or doesn't really want to win.

I hope you're right. I'd love to believe that Howard will be candid with the medical staff about his condition game by game, that they'll be able to gauge his health and risk of long-term injury at each point, that he'll follow their advice, and that we'll be strong enough without him to win enough of those games to get into the playoffs with a decent seed. I wouldn't bet on all of that happening. But if some combo of Capella, Motiejunas et al can hold down the fort and give Dwight and McHale the confidence to play it safe in the regular season, that's a start.
