whoops........Man, he shoots so damn well I thought he must be a guard until I saw him standing next to Mount Mutombo (they were about the same height)!
this is sooooooooooooo stupid. why would the media hype up another black player, the league is like 90% black. don't you think if they wanted to hype someone up based on race that it would be a guy that wasn't black to help solidify its non black fan base. they have enough black superstars. second of all, to suggest that yao didn't get hype because he is chinese, well you just have to be living on another freakin planet.
The Florida papers lost all credibility during their "sour grapes over losing T-Mac" phase. Just a couple of points: • How many NBA GMs would pick Howard over Yao right now? • We talk about Howard's upside, but who believes that Yao has maxed out his own potential? What about Yao's upside? • Yea, Howard is going to be a great player.
Big Z has a better jumper than Yao now. To be honest, Yao's mid-range jumpers are terrible in recent years. Very unreliable.
dude, i'm saying dream team 1, barkley, jordan, bird, stockton, robinson, ewing, drexler, pippen, magic, malone would destroy any european team, and with shaq on dream team 2, both teams would destroy euro teams from any year. sheer skill alone would allow them to dominizzle? i hope ur not saying that that team would lose, because they wouldn't. can u imagine all that talent losing? even if other teams "less athleticism" or are smarter. Which is not to say dream team 1 were a bunch of idiots, but the thing that seperates them is their unbelievable athleticism in combination with their iq. but they never played as a team before, and i don't think it would matter, even today. bottom line, D-Ho will be amazing. Yao is amazing. D-Ho still has many areas to improve in, Yao can only improve in a few categories because his size limits other parts of the game. D-ho can work under a myriad of sets and offenses, Yao needs a half court game. Yao has touch, d-ho is more like shawn kemp, if we're comparing man-child centers to undersized pfs. Yes, d-ho is more explosive highlight reel stuff, but wait and see. he's still a kid.
???? His turnaround baseline Jumper is deadly as hell. Isn't that a mid-range game? Everybody last year that played against the rockets noted that his jumpers were one of the deadliest. Yao is a much better shooter than you give him credit for.
OMG, I can't believe this thread is still alive. Allright, Yao can't defense, Howard is THE God. Howard will squash Yao's ass like a bug this coming season. So everyone is happy now shall we just drop the topic now? BTW, Tracy is regret like hell that he chose to leave Magic and joined the Rockets two years ago. BIggest mistake! He was crying like a baby last night and told his newly-wed bride that had he stay with Magic he must've already won the championship last year along with Your Majesty Howard. Since our poor asses stuck with Yao for next couple of years...why don't you guys move on. Get a life. Enjoy Rockets smash Magic into pieces twice this season. Have fun.
The TAJ is really more of a shot that sets up his other moves, and he rarely shoots it outside of 10/12 feet. He's OK at it, but his FG% is high becasue of the layups and dunks rather than the TAJ. It's something people have to defend, but like pretty much all contested Js, Yao's TAJ goes on and off throughout the season. Also, it's more of a "short range J". In my mind, a "midrange" game would be more of the 15-20 feet variety-- like Juwan's shots. Yao does shoot the occasional 15-18 footer in the offense, but it's pretty rare and his % on them isn't very good-- perhaps because how rarely he shoots it. Van Gundy prefers his big ass to stayin the post where he puts more pressure on the D. I got the feeling that Van Gundy thinks it's waste to use your big center to shoot 18 foot jumpers when Juwan Howard, Shane Battier, etc can do it just as well anyhow.
woa, settle down!! no one is saying anything like that. yao will dominate d-ho this year, that's not being disputed. actually, nothing you are saying makes any sense at all. calm down.
I agree with JVG. It is a waste for your center to shoot anything further out than 12 ft. We already have enough oversized wannabe guards in the league, that should be playing a low post game instead. You hit the spot about the low percentage in regards to his 15-18 ft. game. He rarely ever shoots it, you really can't judge his fg% on shots that are less than 50 per season. If you ever watch him practice, he drains those 15-18 ft jumpers all day long. From my perspective, the TAJ is not his setup move, it really does seem like his bread and butter, but that's just me. Don't forget, TAJs are challenged, high difficulty shots. If he can make those at a "OK percentage," think about what he can accomplish with just a straight up jump shot. Just because he doesn't do it, doesn't mean he can't do it. I dare say, if anybody does leave him that wide open, just shoot it all day long. I can live with it, since they probably would have a even higher success rate than J. HO's jumpshots.
Yes. I love yao but howard is younger as well as faster and stronger, offense is not so good though. will be great, maybe even stronger than amare.
I won't say DH is even as good a defender as Yao is. Yes he got more R and B, but he doesn't play the center position all the time. For a good defendsive player on the center positon, stat doesn't show everything. You will get more rebounds and blocks by waiting on the weak side for those opportunities, rather than challenge every shots before you like Yao did. Everyone knows how hard to shoot directly over a guy 6-12 inches higher than you and that is the reason why the Rockets can keep the opposing team's shooting% almost lowest in the leadge. Stat per say, DH is a better personal defender, but Yao is on another level, he is a team defender, he makes the TEAM good on defense. DH may end up averaging 12-15 rebounds this season, that is damn good, but he has no way to make the Magics a good team on D like Yao did.
WTF! D. Howard is better than YAO? I do not deny Howard has potential to be a star and he is the franchise player of Orlando. BUt the title is STUPID enough!
I've said it before and I'll say it again, "Man I love being a Turtle"... I mean, the magic are still mad because they got the raw end of the trade which brought T-Mac to Houston(everyone we traded to their team is gone). I f they want to live in a fantasy world were they are better than the rockets, let them because they are in for a big surprise, we are going to rock them so hard this writer is going to be attacked by the orlando fans for giving them false hope against Houston.
Yao is clearly better than Dwight Howard. Man on Man defense, Dwight is better, so is he at rebounding. However, Yao's defensive impact is far greater and not too far off in terms of rebounding(remember 12rpg post-all star break compared to dwight's 13rpg). The other fine line, is that other part of the game--offense-- no one in the NBA in the C position meets up to Yao's talent. Skill-wise you got to take a look at Brad Miller and Mehmet Okur, but talent and skills combined Yao is easily, no doubt the best C in the game. Yao is 24/10 this seaosn, Dwight will be 18/12. Statstically, yao takes it, Impact Yao takes it, greatly.
