You'd have to be insane to not see where Carmichael Dave is coming from but other than homerism there are some real reasons why you can't say we wouldn't have won our championships without Jordan retiring. The main one is that we never played against each other in the playoffs. No one has any idea how that would have went. Anyone who thinks they do is either nut hugging Jordan or nuthugging the rockets.

nationwide everyone nuthugs Jordan so Dave's sentiments are understandable. In houston, everyone does the same for the rockets so our view is also understandable. They never played the best center of the era in the playoffs. We never played the best SG of the era in the playoffs.

As far as the Dwight vs Yao argument goes. I agree with Dave, if you're judging who's the better player head-to-head matchups don't mean much. Its about what you do on a nightly basis. I would still take Yao in a playoff series but that's because he has a more positive affect on the offense (better passer and scorer) than Dwight, not because of their rare head-to-head matchups.

    you are absolutely right pmac,
the rockets and bulls never played in the playoffs, they only played in the regular season during the 80s (yes people forget) and the 90s.

and the only thing you know is what DID happen.

like MAXWELL SHUTTING DOWN Jordan. what would have happened? I don't know. I just know WHAT HAPPENED. what HAPPENED is we don't double MJ, we stick Vernon on him and he scores only 26 points. Jordan averaged like 35 points a game. what happened is our other players owned their other players.

Thorped owned Grant. Kenny Smith owned BJ Armstrong. Horry did well against Scottie. And you know what Dream did.

so this invincible team, the Bulls got destroyed 110-96. that happened. the NEWS WILL NOT SHOW YOU THAT cause the NBA wants Jordan to be invincible. I'm surprised they haven't erased all the evidence that the Rockets ever beat the Bulls.

you can ask what if, I can tell what did.

    Rockets turn Bulls inside out

    By EDDIE SEFKO
    Staff

CHICAGO -- The Rockets have caught flak, patched up holes and mended their wounds during the first six weeks of the NBA season.

All of a sudden, they became Bull-etproof.

That's the way they looked Friday night when the Rockets overwhelmed the two-time defending world champion Chicago Bulls 110-96 at Chicago Stadium.

And the impressive thing is, the best team won.

Call it a validation of the Rockets' leap into the upper crust. Call it a morale booster for a team that had yet to prove anything away from The Summit.

Call it the Rockets' fourth victory over the Bulls in their last five meetings.

"It's gigantic," coach Rudy Tomjanovich said. "This game is so much more important than just a game in terms of getting respect around the league and gaining confidence in ourselves."

It remains to be seen if that confidence and respect carry over tonight in Minnesota, but the Rockets started their three-game swing through the wintry northlands with a superb effort.

Hakeem Olajuwon had 28 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists as all five Rockets starters hit for 17 points or more. Otis Thorpe had 19 points and rookie Robert Horry had 18 points. Kenny Smith had 17 points and seven assists, hitting all three of his 3-point attempts. Vernon Maxwell had 19 points and did a respectable job of making Michael Jordan work for his 26 points.

Don't act dense. Our problems were getting past Seattle, not Jordan's Bulls.

...pfff... radio hosts think they're so smart.

Mr. Dave, dare to pick your favorite team and we'll pick you apart.

So if I go and find an Eastern conference team that went 2-0 vs the Rockets in either/both of their championship years, you're telling me that I could make a point that they were in fact better than the Rockets?

    Wow.

As far as '85 goes, that's funny. How did the Rockets fare in the Finals that year?

    Ok then.

Bottom line: The Rockets had SIX chances to make the finals to take on Jordan's Bulls, and they couldnt do it. Regular season means very little. Dont blow it up because that's all there is to compare.

Same thing as Yao vs Dwight head to head being the determining factor on who's the best center.....except with teams instead of players.

And I couldnt care less about Jordan or his Bulls, I'm a Kings fan and the only think I know is that I had a lot of fun WATCHING other people's teams play in the Finals.

hahaha. you're going to use 95? Really? Why not the 3 years after, or the 3 (+1) before?

    Selective memory.

    Of course, Dream>Jordan, right?

    Dense?

    So:

    Chicago>Seattle

    Seattle>Rockets

    therefore:

    Rockets>Bulls

I'm sorry. I havent once pulled the "radio host" card, so I dont see how that's relevant. I for one will take the real fans side in an argument over some douche with a mic, but that's just me. I prefer to talk sports with real people, rather than some old school media elitist club.

And as I said before, my team is the Kings, born and raised (since '85 at least). Let me save you some time:

    Lakers pwned the Kings

Never won a title in Sac

    C-Webb sux

    Horry pwned Arco

    Cowbells

    etc

Not one team in the NBA swept the Rockets in 1993-94, much less the Eastern Conference.

And in 1995 only the Knicks and Orl were 2-0 against them. Would you like to try making a point that NY and ORL were better than the Rockets in 1995?

Do you want to try again?

Actually, I'm glad you brought this up.

The other night, I had a really, really bad dream.

I was on this internet message board, talking to a bunch of fans. Like them, I had some time to kill, so I got into this basketball debate.

Then I started getting owned by everyone, and I was really embarassed. I couldnt believe it: Here I am, thinking I know the NBA, and these faceless keyboard warriors were owning me for all to see!!!!

I kept running and running in my dream, but people were chasing me and throwing keyboards and times new roman fonts and world of warcraft figurines at me, and I couldnt get away!!!!

So yes, yes Tinman....I am scared. I admit it. I am not l33t at all.

all my base does in fact belong to you.

hey you derailed this thread, I thought it was about Dwight Howard!

I'm waiting for you on the GARM. Maybe if you actually open your mind about the Rockets and read some of the "ACTUAL GAME ARTICLES" you would have an idea what happened back in the day.

I play street fighter, so I'm throwing fireballs at you. Warcraft is crap!

    Well:

If the Rockets didnt beat the Knicks ONE TIME all year long, wouldnt it be fair to say the Knicks were better?

Yes, I remember that Houston won in the finals the year before, but I'm pretty sure they had homecourt advantage, and it took them seven games to do it. Who's to say the Knicks didnt improve in the offseason.

If the Rockets couldnt beat the Knicks all year, I say this:

The Rockets may have been the best team in the NBA, but they werent better than the Knicks. (Wait, that logic is a little fuzzy. Where did I see that in this thread)???

    Never mind.

I still don't see you on the GARM, but still on this Dwight Howard thread talking smack about the Rockets titles.

if you actually had knowledge of the Rockets vs Bulls in the early 90s, you know that the Rockets don't double team Jordan, they just play him straight up with maxwell. I do have ALL THE GAME RECAPS, but I see you are too brainwashed by Nike, Mars Blackman, David Stern, and Gatorade to read it.

Dude, I shouryukened your ass, so deal with it :)

I will happily roll to the thread, but what is it going to prove? That the Rox had a great record against the Bulls that year? That some sportswriters felt the Rox could do well or beat the Bulls?

Its an age-old argument. We will never know. I do know this: The Bulls won 3 titles in a row two different times. You can make an argument that they could have won 8 in a row.

However, Jordan retiring isnt Hakeem's fault, or Kenny Smith's. Its Jordan's fault. So I take nothing away from Houston.

But I dont remember Hakeem taking two years off. And I don't hear too many people arguing that the Rox couldve won 3 in a row, much less 4, 5, or 6.

They got theirs, it just so happened that the best player on the planet had his mind elsewhere both times. Coincidence? Perhaps. Should we take anythimg away from the Rox? Not a chance.

    Carmichael,

People in California suck at Street Fighter. I can probably beat you with Dhalism. all people in cali do is try to tick throw you, but when the Htown streetfighters pull the reverse, they claim we are 'cheating'.

you still need to read my GARM thread, besides the game recaps, you'd find it entertaining. don't be shocked.
