Yao does not have a mid-range game either but Yao thought he got one and shoot way too many jumpers. Every time Yao falls in love with his jump shooting, Rockets lose.

What is Yao's midrange game? He doesn't have one. Kendrick Perkins hit more midrange jumpers in yesterday's game than Yao has hit all season.

True, Yao doesn't drive as much as he is supposed too. He is jump shot happy and was embarrassed last night by Perkins. He made Perkins look like shaq in his prime or like the dream in the rocket days

It's kinda weird. Was it just me, or did Yao have a nice midrange game in his rookie season under Rudy T? Hasn't been heard from since.

Last time I checked there we no style points for hitting a jump shot or dunking. They're still 2 points and our big guy is bricking dunks and getting his shot blocked far too much.

You are right. Athleticism doesn't last forever. So when the little bit of athleticism Yao has is gone, which I figure the over under is 4 years for a guy his size, he's going to have nothing. Without his athleticism he's done.

I'm not meaning to bag on Yao (ok, yes I am cuz I'm sick of him not playing to his size). He needs to step his game up NOW.

When Dwight can't jump as much as he used to what will he be more like Ben Wallace or Chuck Nevitt?

Did you know that DH got his shot blocked 9 times in 4 games vs Yao 8 times in 4 games?

Did you know DH get his shoot blocked 17% of the time so far this season vs Yao 14%.

Did you know last season DH got his shot blocked 10% of the time vs Yao 8%.

Where did you get those numbers? According to 82games, last season Howard got his inside shots blocked 6% of the time, while Yao got them blocked 9% of the time. But because Howard attempts more inside shots, the overall % was similar for both -- about 7%.

    Edit: just saw your update.

Yao's FG% has already been on the downward trend the past few years. This will the 5th year in a row its declined if it keeps up
    .552 in 04-05
    .519
    .516
    .507
    .466 this year so far

Some of it is the offense is being run through him more, and he's progressively getting further away from the basket. And he's not just required to "finish" a basket off a pass. But his shot attempts have lessened the past few years (with a few more ft attempts a game to factor in...)

Whereas Dwight Howard keeps shooting the same 60% but increasing his FG attempts. If Howard attempted the same amount of shots as Yao with Howard's current shooting %, I dont think there'd be much contest really...

Not that I care of this topic but just saw something I wanted to analyze.

If Howard was to take more shots as like Yao then it would most likely mean he would be shooting more outside unlike his current where mostly everything is a dunk. Therefore knowing he cant shoot for shiet his percentage drops. But Yao being more versatile shooting outside of course is gonna miss more.

So not all of Dwights shot can be dunks and if he increased his shots he would therefore lower his percents proving you fail and that your just hating. kthxsbye

Well if you consider the fact that Yao has a higher shooting percentage from 30 feet out than he does from 2 feet out (where he gets blocked by the rim) then it's clear that Howard would still have a higher fg% even if he did take more outside shots. So clearly Howard is MUCH better than Yao. You're just a jealous ***. kthxbye

Yao has offensive skills and size to fall back on when his little bit of athleticism does go away. Just like the great centers before him, he'll have the luxury of adjusting his game, where Dwight will not. Dwight is as good as his athleticism, there is no question about that. That will not last forever...just ask Ben Wallace how he deals with it now. The man was a 4 time DPOY winner, and was known as the "BEAST". Now he is a joke.

For the last time, stop comparing Dwight Howard with Ben Wallace. Ben Wallace on the offensive side averaged 6 points a game.

dwight howard may be the best rebounding and shot blocking big man. his offense still leaves a lot to be desired.

    yao is the most balanced.

but my goodness, amare is CLEARLY the best scoring big man in the game today. his jumpshot is pure money right now and his athleticism is very much still there. amare looks SCARY good right now.

Dwight Howard is a chump. He got pwned in the olympics, he plays like a scared girl. Yao is by far the best center in the league, he just played real pathetic against the Celtics. We're still giving the Lakers their first loss of the season this Sunday.
