Damn it. I missed the game entirely. I'm not surprised with Howard's poor showing. When your game is based on being bigger and stronger than the other guy you actually have to be bigger and stronger than the other guy and we know that isn't the case when Howard meets Yao. This is the odd matchup for Howard where he will consistently lose to Yao as long as they play against each other. I do like Yao's statline and am surprised by that. It's good to see him putting up a solid night again. Let's hope this the beginning of his return as a dominant player in this league.
I don't know why people people think Howard is as good or even better than Yao. I always laugh whenever the media or someone favor Howard over Yao. I never EVER thought for a moment that Howard is as good as Yao...you know why?? He's too short compare to Yao!! In fact, I EVEN gamble with you that EVEN Howard would ADMIT that he's not as good as Yao...but as a player...would he go out and say it?? No! Howard can dominate people of his own height but against Yao??? No way! He does have quickness over Yao but that's not going to let you make shots consistently over Yao.
Howard is definitely the best center in the league, hands down. Just dont expect Rocket fans to admit it on a Rockets board
true, but i'd say you can fence sit on either yao or dwight. both have their pluses and minus'. you know what they are, so i won't repeat them. but if you'd switch them, i think both teams would have pretty close the same record they do now.
well, i still think D.H is the best center in league with the refs' help LOL. anyway i gotta say that yao kills all centers 1 on 1, but he still needs to work on his def and ball handling skillz. our big fellow is unstoppable if no front or double def around gg.
btw i dont think people outside of houston wanna see an asian guy to be the best center anyway LOL, sad...i blame David Stern
It was a shame that DH was taken out of the game with fouls (maybe a flop by Scola on one or two of them). But otherwise, Yao had a much bigger impact on the game than DH.
the dreamshake like move he put on howard was artistic in nature. I hope someone can make a GIF image of that.
Games like this makes me think that Yao's really the last dinosaur. Unstoppable when things are going his way but more and more opponents begin to explore his weakness----the lack of handle (small hand, unable to grab the ball tightly), speed and athletism. He was less effective once DH started to front him, and if DH can figure out that he needs to front to stop Yao, I bet more and more centers are gonna follow. Anyway, I am going to enjoy the beasty Yao until he totally faded out of stage...
stats are really misleading especially for a player like howard. he has no offensive game period. you can't be the best center in the league when you don't have any post moves. and if you bring the shaq argument in here, go watch some highlights of shaq in his orlando and la days. he would straight up dunk on fools when posting up. dwight can't do that. he gets his dunks from good position, offensive rebounds, or alley-oops. in shaq's case, all you had to do was dump it off to him and let him go to work with his back to the basket. unless dwight can develop a good drop step to utilize his athletic ability he can't be the best center in the league in my eyes. what happens when the magic need a bucket? do they dump it to howard and let him work? NO. they give it to turkoglu at the top of the key. that's evidence enough.
Howard is good but he won't be great until he develops an offensive move. He got by Yao a few times but every time he shot it I felt like that was a win for the Rockets.
