I guess he probably felt sorry to diss the Lakers, so he wanted to see if he can help them to get something in return with a S&T, and he'll get his 5th year, $30mil at the same time. Not sure if the Rockets and the Lakers can agree on this, though.

That's true, and for the life of me, I don't see what's in it for him. If he honestly thinks that telling LA face to face that he isn't returning is "the right thing to do," this way was a huge mistake.
I think Houston wants to get Kupcheck, Buss, and Kobe in the same room together, and cordially inform them that he'll be beating down their team for the next 5 years, and that they should have fired Dantoni and Amnestied Kobe
Dwight will sign with the Lakers--then subsequently get fed up with the team mid-season and force a trade with the Rockets, costing us Parsons and/or Omer Asik. Just as Kobe planned.
