You'd be amazed at the number of people that have killed somebody driving after drinking that thought exactly the same thing. You are almost ALWAYS a lot more impaired than you think you are. When driving, often milliseconds of reaction time make a difference between life and death.
So this will be a MAJOR impact on your future . .. in your attempt to be a Air Traffic Controller? While one may respect your honesty. . . .you might have wanted to fight it a bit more. [denied blood test, breathalizer, etc] Being uncooperative might have gotten you some fines/extra tickets/etc but you might have got sober enough to not have a DUI on your record. *shrug* Rocket River
Not being judgemental but I believe long islands contain 5 shots of liquor so that would be like 20 shots over a 6 hour period.
They actually contain 2.5 shots each. 10 shots of liquor over 6 hours is enough to impair most people for driving purposes.
Well, thank God you didn't kill somebody! Ugh. I've got no idea how to respond. Common sense has eluded politicians for years. That and trying to fix problems. It's just sad.
This coming from the tool with the Myspace link in his profile in which he admits he drinks and has tons of pictures drinking and looking like the token-40-year-old-that-still-thinks-he's-in-college-that-I-would-make-fun-of. Yeah, I bet you're a real saint that's never driven when you've had one too many. Thanks for the input, though. I'm glad that even though you were so utterly insulted by my story that you did, indeed, form some semblance of a response. What's next? You show your ass again trying to make fun of Pittsburgh? Good God.
Thanks for the advice but I checked into it and i'm alright. [Relief] But like I mentioned, PA has that first time offense program that can wipe the conviction off your record if you cooperate so i'm just going to go that route. If the breathalyzer says I was over the legal limit i'm sure whatever criteria they use for the blood/alcohol content i'll fail too. It just doesn't seem worth it to fight.
Wow, guess there truly is a first time for everything, for I have to actually defend FFB on this one. His "I don't know how to respond" comment was referring to the (in some opinions) overly harsh blood alcohol limit and it's effects. He wasn't insulting you or your situation, rather the 0.08 limit.
No, he was insulting anyone and everyone who has ever lost a friend of loved one to a drunk driver ("Well, thank God you didn't kill somebody!"). Fatty is hardly concerned over whether someone could get killed, but rather more concerned over whether the politicians can figure out how to subsidize his ride home. I agree. Why should I pay for my own cab after I just bought another round for my friends and I? If they really wanted to protect the public for folks DUI, they would stop arresting us, making us do jail time and pay fines (ya know, trying to "deter" us), and instead, find a way to get us home so we don't get in our cars and kill innocent people. How can we be expected to take responsibility for ourselves and others when we are hammered? It is all just a cash grab really.
It came off as condescending to me especially with the "Thank God you didn't kill somebody!" comment since, as I alluded to with passing the field tests, i'm clearly one of those borderline cases. It's not like I was sloppy drunk, talking on my cell phone and speeding while singing "POUR SOME SUGAR ON ME!!!" at the top of my lungs with three hookers in the backseat. Again, I don't deserve any sympathy since according to their equipment I was legally impaired. I didn't know that at the time obviously. Just pointing out the moral of the story (and entire reason for me even sharing this private matter) is to make an example out of myself. It takes literally nothing to register a 0.8 so not only are you risking a costly DUI charge, [if you trust their equipment] you're also impaired enough to potentially harm yourself or somebody else. EDIT: I'm not familiar with his stance on the issue. After reading both posts again I suppose it can be interpreted the way you mentioned. Whatever. He's not really a poster I care for to begin with so I don't really care if i'm hurting any feelings here.
I think the lesson is to pay a little more to take a cab ride home, and realize that if its hurting your wallet to do that often, man up and drink less hours before you actually leave. That DUI fine or much much worse is not worth it.
The ones I used to drink had a full shot of each - 1) rum, 2) gin, 3) tequila, 4) vodka and 5) triple sec with a little sour mix and coke served up in a large glass. I know triple sec doesn't contain the same alcohol content as the others but still...
Wow. You're batting 1,000 in the "I don't understand sarcasm department." I said what I said about Pittsburgh due to the old rivalry. I'm getting tired by how many whiny girls have joined the board recently.
Forgive me for never reading your handbook on the issue, but if you go back and read what you posted again it easily could be interpreted either way. You give little hint of obvious sarcasm to anybody that wasn't already familiar with your stance on the issue.
I hate to say it, but while myself and others may be responsible enough to pay for a cab home, get a ride, or abstain from drinking, the same can't be said for a lot of American citizens. It has almost gotten to the point where being out on the streets on certain nights significantly increases your chances of dying in a vehicular accident because of drunk drivers. It would be nice if there was some action state governments would take to decrease the amount of drunk drivers and dui-related deaths, whether that be by opening up increased options for public transportation or passing harsher penalties.
