Funny, I thought it was "right-wing".

    Or even "dorsal-wing".

It's about damn time! Too bad Georgie can't soften his artistic stance and put both the original and updated versions on DVD. Oh well, there are always bootlegs.

Its funny how Lucas says he wants to make the fans happy, knowing well that at least some fans would like to watch the original version in better quality but he dose what he wants to do.

Makes no sense considering all the fans out there are the ones that made him rich as hell. What a jerk.

No original theatrical versions = No sale

I have the 1993 Definitive Collection box set and 1995 THX "Faces" laserdisc with the originals, and I'll be sticking with those. I hate the SEs and I refuse to own them.

Plus, with this DVD set being only 4 discs(compared to 9 for the Alien Quadrilogy and 4 for each LOTR movie), you know there's gonna be another release down the road. Probably in 2007, which happens to be Star Wars' 30th anniversary. Maybe by then Lucas will come to his senses and offer his loyal fans a choice, just like James Cameron, Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson, and Ridley Scott have done.

    Yee-Haw!!!

Yeah, the new versions suck. At least I have the original widescreen on vhs.....

What happened to that thread a while back about Lucas redoing the original 3 once again?

I love the special editions. Remember the part where Han uses a walki talki to convince that one dude to not take him to Jabba?

There was an episode of South Park about this, with quotes like "we're making it better!" IIRC, they made Spielberg out to be the bad guy while Lucas was misguided, but that seems totally wrong to me.

I'm torn, I've never owned the original SW's movies, but I don't want these SE ones. Well, it's on tv all the time, so I can hold out.

I thought Lucas was waiting for Episode III to come out to release them all in one huge set?

I can't imagine buying the Special Editions, either. As many times as I've seen the original versions over the years, the changes would bother me.

That was the original plan. He also intended to hold off on the first two prequels(as well as Indiana Jones) hitting DVD until after Episode III's release. This is looking like a blatant attempt to hype up the third and final prequel, and I can't really blame Lucas for panicking. The LOTR series has completely overshadowed and outgrossed Episode II, and you know dude is feeling just a little bit envious of Peter Jackson right about now. Releasing the original trilogy(even a bastardized version of it) on DVD should help get fans excited about Episode III and satisfy them until the real box set is released(presumably with all 6 movies) in another 3 years.

Of course, another reason for Lucas' sudden change of heart is that with HD-DVD looming on the horizon, if he waited til after Episode III to start prepping these discs, there could be a newer and vastly superior home video format available. This ensures that he can cash in on both DVD and HD-DVD releases of the trilogy.

    Finally.

SE's or not, my kids (ages 2 and 4) are wearing out our current VHS copies of the SE's... I don't let them watch the originals just because I'd like to put them on to DVD first, or video CD.

How would I do that anyway? I'm sure it's possible, I been sleepin' on the technology of it all.... just got my surround sound finally this Christmas with new DVD and VHS to boot... but I'd like to transfer the old stuff to disc.

Either way, I know I'll probably buy the big set (7 disc or whatever) that comes out after the III comes out... I did afterall buy the Ep. I on VHS, and then it hit DVD, and of course I got it.

I have the blue colored trilogy (restored with THX), and the gold colored SE Trilogy... and I'll have every version on DVD I'm sure.

Call me a SW geek! I'm thrilled that my kids ask for it by name.:)
