Thanks guys. Screw all of you...You have forced me to go on a shopping spree for DVDs. Damnit!! I cant withstand temptation.
Hard to believe that with roughly 600 DVDs between us, we have only about 33 duplicate DVDs and less than 40 duplicate DVDs or Movies (i.e. I have Made and Swingers each and you have the Made/Swinger combo disc, etc).
That's just sick! Recent purchases: Brazil, 3-Disk Criterion Collection Time Bandits, Criterion Collection (for free) Twin Peaks, Season 1 Tomorrow I'll probably pick up Punch Drunk Love
Which Something about Mary? I just sold my original version on Ebay so I could buy the new 2 disc edition that releases July 1st.
I am not sure how this site counts those movies that are in a pack. Like the Adam sandler collection. Would it count it as one or 3. I am to lazy to go count these things one by one to check
There were some magazines saying CDs would *only* last twenty years when they first came out. Urban legend or fact? TDK claims 100 years for its best CDs but only twenty for its cheapest. I found a 100 year claim for its read/write DVDs on one of the subpages. http://www.tdk.com.au/products/multimedia_storage/index_multimedia_storage.htm
Well I meant how long would they last as a media choice. VHS lasted about 20 years give or take. Will DVD last that long?
The DVD format is nearly 6 years old right now, and I see it going strong for at least another 5 years. The X-factor is what impact HD-DVD has on the market when it becomes a reality in the next 2-3 years.
I have the special edition one, outrageous footage never before seen yadda yadda yadda.... I would have waited until July 1, but I got it as a gift. I will probably go out and get the 2 disc one anyways
Ugh just another 5 years? I want something with a little more longevity. What's the point of even collecting if you have to throw it all away in 5 years. BTW - Blade Runner's director's cut. Is this better than the theatrical version?
There's no such thing as longevity in a world where technology is as fast paced as a young Carl Lewis. 11 years is an eternity.
You upgrade when the proper time comes. Or you refuse the advancement and live in the past. I'm sure there is still a market for VHS cassettes since they are still available in retail outlets.
I like that attitude. I will probably do that. BTW - Does anybody want to be an unopened copy of the Director's Cut of Blade Runner? I'll sell it for 16.
What are you DVD freaks going to do in a couple of years when the blue laser high definiation DVD's come out. You know you will want to buy all those movies again.
