oh yeah, i saw several people peeing in the canal - i guess i have lower standards than you! :grin: did you notice those urinals they have out in the middle of the sidewalk and varioius plazas. its like a 3 sided thing you just walk up to and pee in, w/ your back facing everyone walking by. not that im pee-shy or anything, but id have a difficult time going in those conditions. i got busted peeing behind a bus stop in monterrey, mexico - pretty scary - closest ive ever came to being arrested down there. cost me $40 - $20 to each cop.
Yeah, they have those right next to the canals themselves, and it just drains right into the canal. I guess I was more concerned about the brazen display of "Look at us we're in Amsterdam and anything goes, woohoo" that bothered me so much. It struck me as a disrespectful blow to this transcendental sense of freedom I felt while was there, and I remember thinking that if anything could screw this up, it'd be some stupid crap like this. Then again, I could have just been being entirely too hypersensitive to the whole "ugly American" thing, especially considering the group I saw weren't even Americans.
