You cannot count on Brantley for next year. You cannot count on Yordan playing significantly in the field. They would be extremely dumb/short-sighted to trade Chas in the off-season just to clear up a “log jam” that is only existing now. Reminds me of last off season when people said we had too much pitching.
Jake Meyers is a starting caliber CF (18th in fWAR while in CF). There just aren't that many guys (~20 or so) that don't completely suck defensively in CF that hit better than him or that just can't hit well enough for their elite defense to matter. Some of those 20 will play at other positions (e.g., Chas McCormick right now). Ideally, Meyers would platoon with a guy that can hit RHPs as most of his offensive value comes off LHPs to maximize value in CF. Alternatively, Chas could slide from LF to CF when it is a RHP to allow a bat to play in LF and DH (i.e., what should be happening right now). The Astros have one of the strongest CFs in all of baseball in 2023 (I'm surprised it is only 4th in fWAR). Should have had one in 2022 as well, but manager choose differently in the regular season. Only one man stands between the Astros and having a great CF in 2024. Edit: I suspect Meyers will hit better next season the further he gets from surgery and more regular PT.
Mad I don't like these distractions this time of year. **** dusty for letting it get to this point. Players manager my ass.
Can you imagine any other team with post seasons aspirations having a position of need with a player performing like chas is and not playing him for marurcio dubon, JULKS!, etc?
Brantley played 11 of his 17 rehab games in LF and 2 in 1B... seems like the organization still thinks he is a player that should still see the field. 2017 Beltran he is not.
La Russa would do something like that. I think Dusty at this point in his career isn't that much different than La Russa but with charm and without the baggage of being an all around disgusting person.
Thats the thing Everyone on here is mad at each other and all this back and forth When all that really needs to happen is for dusty to put Chas in CF on a pretty much every day basis. It's not that difficult
I know you are not talking about old people in general but I have to say something about stubbornness. I am sometimes accused of being stubborn myself. What my accuser usually does not know is that I was there the last three times somebody had his same new idea and had it blow up in their face. What was old is forgotten til some youngster thinks he thought of something new and wonders why old people are so unwilling to try out his "new" idea.
this is where the ability to communicate would come in. “The reason I am reluctant to try this is because, in the past, when we did try this…”
Dusty doesn't give a F. Its his last year and he knows it unless he wins again, then he gets to do what he wants. Sucks, but we are being held hostage by a power hungry manager lol.
Can anyone think of another situation, any sport, where the manager/head coach when asked about playing time compared his player to a player on a rival team and said his player isn’t in the same class as the rival? I can’t and I follow sports religiously Then if you can remember one, did that player actually have better numbers than the rival player in every area?
I sincerely feel like it’s a big middle finger from Dusty to everyone that keeps telling him who should be played. I think the org knows it’s an issue and think there will be a change regardless of what happens the rest of the season but that’s just my gut.
Sounds simple but my experience has been that coming from an older person that explanation does nothing to sway a youngster with a new idea. It is a conundrum of stubbornness.
I think you are 3/4 right I agree it's dusty sticking the middle finger to fans, any players who think Chas and Diaz should play more and to front office people who feel that way too I agree the org knows it's an issue I do not think Crane would let Dusty go if he wanted to come back. Crane knows if Dusty wants to come back and he doesn't let him, Dusty will rip Crane and the organization publically for it, and he isn't taking another huge PR hit Let's not forget, Crane agreed to change leagues just to get the team. He had quite a few PR issues in his business history (most business owners do) and some of that made some in MLB to not want Crane to be able to join their group. So he agreed to the league swap just to get in and at least partly that was because of PR issues And before the "cheating" scandal, which wasn't cheating when we were just better at doing what most of baseball was doing...but....he had major PR hits with the Osuna situation, Taubman etc..... Then the BS scandal which is what led to Dusty being hired in the first place. I mean let's be clear here, the guy that went ALL IN on analytics, hiring Luhnow and the nerd cave, hiring AJ because he agreed to go all in on the analytics...and all of it worked, led to us being easily the most dominant team in baseball for the three years leading up to Fiers punk ass mouthing off....the guy that hired those guys wasn't going to go out on his own and hire one of the most anti-analytical managers you could find. Na, nope, huh uh, that ain't how it went down....at the least there was a bit of pressure put on Crane to hire Dusty He would likely sell the team before he would "fire" Dusty, and contract or no contract that is how it would be perceived and he knows it
And thats the problem. Media and fans shouldnt have a say, but when the FO feeds you data and information and the middle finger still goes up. Well...
