why is it bad? if you are losing by a lot of winning by a lot, why does it matter

also like other people said, why shooting a full court shot when the probability of scoring that is very low.

Well what if if you're not winning or losing by a lot, like most normal games? It sets a bad precedent since it seems players care more about their overall numbers than the game at hand. Even if it probabilty is tiny, if their is a shot, their is a shot..you take it. Think of that 3 Steph Curry hit against us. What if it was a close game? That shot would've made all the difference in the world.

Hey, if a player on the Rox was that close to achieving a 50-90-40 season - would you complain that he didn't take those 1/2 court heaves? Let Douglas take those, right?

Just saw a video on youtube about Michael Jordan where he talked about that if he played for stats/percentages, he would not have won as many rings as he did. Kinda disappointed Durant is worried about something like that.

The whole overall averages only matter in the minds of the fans. Daryl Morey has come out and said multiple times that the Rockets keep track of desperation shots and adjust them out of their calculations. Not just half court heaves, but also shots with the clock running down or rushed shots to get 2-for-1 opportunities and such. Sometimes you see Harden put up a bad shot with 30 seconds left in the quarter, just because the Rockets want that 2-for-1.

Therefore, I have no doubt that Thunder as an organization would ever in any way penalize Durant for heaving up 50 footers. It would only matter if Durant cared about public perception on his raw numbers.

I really don't think this is a big deal and doesn't diminish my opinion of KD at all. This happens in literally every single game... I'd guess that the after-buzzer shot is more common than before-buzzer.

No wonder why Westbrook always insists on taking the last shots no matter how stupid they are.

He's scared of LerBon, it's very obvious. I mean who would want to get tackled by tank after sinking a half court shot?

    I'm surprised he admitted it.

    Why is anybody surprised?

Westbrook is the true winner on that team and that much has always been obvious

Take notes, Rockets: when there are only seconds left on the clock, smother Westbrook and force the ball to Durant.

I could respect it if he said it depended on the score. But not that it depends on his stats. It doesn't matter that it is a low percentage shot. Even if he has a 1% chance of making it (and really, he probably shoots half-court heaves at a higher rate than that), it's a free shot and better than no shot at all. You lose nothing at all by it, except a couple of basis points on your FG%.

There's a very simple solution to this that has been mentioned many times. End of quarter heaves don't count as attempts if they miss. So there's no penalty for attempting the shot.

It will make these situations a little more interesting for fans, but realistically it doesn't make all that much of a difference on wins/losses.

Frankly, I respect the honesty more than I disrespect the deed. Most NBA players are hesitant to take the shot for that reason, I bet.

The 50-90-40 club is impressive if it happens in the flow of the game. It is bushleague to not take the heave if it can have an impact on the game.

Durant isnt as crafty as he should be.... a better answer would have been to say that the heave messes with his shot, so he wont take them unless the game is on the line.

What's worse, protecting your stats by refusing an attempt (at an early buzzer), or going out of your way to pad stats in garbage time when the game is over?
