The photo does not tell the whole story. On one of the early plays in the game, a korean ballhandler drove the lane and got Yao's attention, leaving Ha Seung Jin the 7'3 centre alone 5 ft away from the hoop. The Korean pg passed the ball to Ha and as he went up for the shot, Yao turned around quickly and got a big piece of the ball to send it back the other way.

Yao runs all the way to the other side of the court, and posts up Ha. Ha trying to go for the pickpocket did not anticipate Yao's quickness as Yao spins baseline with Ha trying to recover putting his hands up to try to block Yao, Yao thunders a one hand hammer down plus the foul!!! the crowd goes berzerk!! Yao is fired up and showing his aggresiveness as he slaps away at his teammates hands. That Ha kid maybe 18, but hell he's still 7'3 and hard to dunk over.

Chinese crowds at the championships aren't usually very vocal, but hell they were loud tonight. Man, on that one play to start the game off...Yao really showed who the man was to the 18 yr old kid. One day the kid might be good, but he's got a long way to go.

uuuuhhh...yea. "It's said" at the top of this page..

and actually, CD said he is expected here on the 5th. I would imagine that he "said" that after being in contact with Yao.
    ]

    thanks for tryin..

If memory serves, Shaw has already felt Yao's wrath..If his performance in the ACs are any indicator...it's just gonna get worse this year.

His committment this year ended for them on Oct 1st when they won a berth in the Olympics by winning the Asian Championships.

    No excuses.

Just watched the video of China vs Korea. I can't be more happy about Yao's performance. Couple of things noticed.

    1. Yao has turned into a total MONSTER on court! His dunks and blocks are ferocious. He has more dunks than layups/jump shots. And he pumped fists/yell at his opponents too!

    2. Yao's style of play reminds of more of Shaq than Duncan, running through opponents in the paint and dunk the ball.

    3. I didn't notice Yao being slower at all. In fact, I feel he moves faster than last season, at one point dribbling the ball and playing point center.

    4. Yao is going to have a MONSTER season, just as the NBA-TV anchor predicted!

    5. When is the first Rockets game on TV? Are they showing any pre-season games at all?

I'm trying to figure out what Yao's FG% would be last season had he dunked instead of went for layups with 3 defenders around.

Do the Rockets even have practice over the weekends? I'm just wondering if he would have any kind of extra head start if he left now as opposed to getting here Sunday and starting back up Monday.

I dont know. Considering how much of a hardass JVG is being, they very well might be. He is just getting the vets in today(Fri) and the first preseason game is Tues, so I would be willing to bet they practice over the weekend.

    from the Chron article thread...
Sounds like weekend practice to me...;)

If he comes with this... it won't matter when he shows up.
(Although sooner would still be better)

Post Asian Tournament Quote from Yao:
    http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?s=&threadid=65490

"I finally reached the real meaning of early offense," Yao said, "I couldn't get satisfactory output each time I tried before, but during a long practice recently with the national team, it struck me all of a sudden. I have THE FEELING now. Once I land on the best offensive position and prepare myself for the offense, I shall be stopped by no one."

I feel like those words should be Charlton Heston's voice parting the Red Sea or something.

I used a program to download the whole file rather than stream it. File size is about 74 megs, 2 hour video footage compressed to 74 megs. It's like watching a slideshow and image quality is very poor. not with the download.
