I get what you're saying -- I was responding earlier to people calling that the greatest FT line dunk ever. That's ludicrous. MJ's was clearly better -- Ibaka had the wingspan/height to make up for his lack of hang time. The NBA should really look into bringing in non-NBA players into the dunk contest. It would be cool to see the best dunkers in the NBA go up against the best dunkers in the world -- maybe it will even get more players to want to get involved with it.
Sickest FT line dunk I've ever seen. Nothing else comes close. What makes it even more amazing is that it didn't look like he even struggled with it.
Yeah that two handed 360 windmill was amazing. Too bad he had to tone it down a bunch in order to make it at the end. Blake's second dunk was terrible though, the judges clearly rigged their scores so he would make it to the finals.
That is what I thought he was going to do when I first saw the car. Did think the Davis pass was creative but the dunk itself was meh. I didn't think the dunk contest itself was weak. That first round was pretty exciting.
I agree about JeVale McGee's last dunk. It was clear that he was out of ideas and didn't have anything left in the bag of tricks.
The NBA should emphasize to the players that is should be more about the dunks not all these props. Ever since Nate and Dwight they have changed the whole thing now. It's not even about the dunks anymore. Ibaka's 2nd dunk was weak, but I think it scored higher than the FT line dunk...because of the whole show before it and the prop. Limit the props, say that the dunkers can only do one prop dunk. The dunk contest was at it's best when guys just went out and dunked. Blake attempted some sick dunks but it's stupid the contest will be remembered for that two handed dunk over the front of a car. Also I think he knew the front of the care would be lame, but it would be stupid if to have him dunk over a car in the middle of the season too.
I honestly think Blake was going to try to do a windmill two handed dunk over the car, but the pass was so far ahead of him Blake was forced to just lean forward and throw it down with two hands. Granted, it still wouldn't have been all that spectacular, but it would have at least been a lot better.
A couple of things I think would have helped Blake's first showing live up to it's hype. First dunk, even though it took three tries he should have hung on the rim to give more of a power dunk like he did on his last dunk. Second dunk was really nice, maybe a between the legs might have topped it. Third dunk was nice too but could have been nasty to get both arms in....I think that's possible. Final dunk, he should have made that a wind mill dunk, he was high enough to pull it off.
The Kia dunk was when I said to myself, "the dunk contest just got lamer" simpy because when the contest itself becomes all about the advertisers and product placement, it's just lame to me. If you guys want to see some of the best dunks, you have to look outside of the NBA. That's where multi-million dollar athletes aren't necessarily worrying about injuring their season and a shot at a big payday or worried about losing their reputation, etc. Things like the "over the car" dunk have been done in dunk competitions for years.
The dunk contests keep getting worse every year. The best ever was Dominique vs Jordan. I still watch highlights from time to time. After that IMO the best exhibitions were by Carter - then - J.Richardson.
This dunk contest wasn't even close to being as bad as the last two. Actually, it was probably my favorite one since Josh Smith came in and completely tore the place down in 2005.
<iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/UwxA-pHhVwI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> best dunk contest imo... and it wasnt even a nba one.
If you guys knew that this contest is decided through votes and been open even before the final round started, you would already know Blake Griffin would win. Blake Griffin might even already have a considerable amount of lead before he touched the ball to dunk in the final round. I was also disappointed in Ibaka's score. Probably it was because many people attempted it and their foot always pass the FT line, so the consensus must be that whoever attempted it would have their foot pass the FT line which make nobody would be impressed again. The judges should have the benefit of the replay before giving the score, because I'm sure they would give a 50 by seeing the replay. No way they could see from where Ibaka took off. I didn't realize Ibaka's foot was behind the FT line before I saw the replay and was not that excited until then. Have to say Great 1st round got me pumped
LMFAO. I guess you missed it in 2000. They need to eliminate all props... Ibaka and DeRozan had the 2 best dunks of the night, and neither made it to the final round.
I can't believe all the complaining. The dunk contest has been a joke for years. This year was as entertaining from top to bottom, as I've seen in maybe forever. My only beef was my dvr cut off right after Griffins last dunk.
They need to have more dunks in there somehow. Somebody like DeRozan should have made it to the last round as well. Maybe have the last round be four dunkers as well.
Who said that Ibaka's was the greatest ever? Never saw that posted. Everybody knows that James white would beat EVERYBODY who participated this year.
All Ibaka had to do was put down some tape from where he was going to lift off... and then give the announcers like 30 seconds to be like "WTF.. no way... hell no... he can't do that ish... OMGGGGGG" and the whole house would have been down... and we would all be talking about this dunk till now...
