That we have a working system of representation in the government, and that checks and balances keep things working right on their own.

20% of Americans believe that the Sun revolves around the Earth.

This makes me very very sad. How is this possible?

    20%?!? 1 out of every 5?

That's too many. There has to be a mistake in the poll.

Not 1 out of 5, dummy, 20%! (How can you even get 1 out of 5? Then it would only be 4!)

If they are in and of the universe, they could not have created the universe, as they would have not existed before the act of creation.

    Logic fail.

The rest of the world is just jealous that we are such an incredible country that they knit pick at our heals trying to get noticed.

Then they beg for the scraps left over from our dinner table.

We are the USA, we are the best.....

We are the biggest, baddest, mo-fo country on the planet.

And yes, we allow our stupid people to vote too.

    ;)

Yes, they do. But unlike a certain former vice presidential candidate in the US, he didn't win election by going around saying "Vote for me because I'm stupider than my opponent, so you should feel less intimidated by me. I'm a real Iranian!"

I don't think that was the point. The point was that even 18% is far too many.

Again, I'm not disagreeing with your statement that there are idiots running a lot of countries. I was making the point that in my view, it seems uniquely American that people are elected because they are idiots.

Of course, Deji provided a very good foreign example in his post on page 2.

Well of course, if you let stupid people vote, then sometimes they are going to vote folks they feel are on their level.

How else can you explain a 2nd term for George W. Bush?

Maybe not exactly in those terms but the Ahmedinajad campaign did portray him as a man of the people while his opponents where intellectual and otherwise elites.

I think what Ottomaton is saying would be more along the lines that you can't give birth to yourself.

no ONE? See there is your problem, an assumption of an existence that has no evidence.

And it's not random luck. If all things are possible in an infinite universe then human existence is inevitable. Some where there was going to be a planet 98 millions miles from a medium sun, with a spinning metal core and a balancing moon that would cool a crust, collect water from asteroids, cook up organic molecules until a DNA became self replicating, that randomly evolved into a self-aware life form. Had to happen.
