This is pretty much the only reason I wouldn't consider A&M. I wanted to be in a good band. I am amazed at how revered they are by Aggies.
good ol' Lynus AKA Musical Genius taking shots at the mighty Fightin' Texas Aggie Band, the best military marching band in the nation. Our band sucks man, we play "out of tune" right? we march "out of line" remember?
Being the best military-style marching band is about equivalent to winning the U.S. national championship in cricket, how much competition is there?
Sure, get your (unwarranted) shots in. It's pretty common knowledge that the Aggie band isn't that good, and is downright terrible considering how highly Aggies think of them. You'd think Miles Davis and Charlie Parker had been cloned a few hundred times over or something. They're big, they're loud, they march well, and they look pretty. That's about it. Call me when it's actually required to play an instrument to be in the Aggie band.
yea..the rotc thing is a bit out of hand...i never got it though, so are those kids going to pursue something in that field later on, or is it all for fun?
A fair percentage of corp members are commissioned directly into the armed forces after they graduate. Admittedly, some go through the corps because the admission requirements are far more relaxed than the requirements for the general university. Well, there's that. And this: A&M has produced more than 200 generals and several medal of honor winners. The Corps is a damn good thing for them to be proud of.
Class of '05. Not my intention. Was genuinely confused by the tu thing. With the University of Colorado being CU, and the University of Nebraska being NU and so on and so forth, I thought I was just misinformed. I am laughing at the band comments though. I rode a bus with a bunch of Aggies fans and they kept talking about how it was such a shame that the "greatest band in the land" wasn't coming to the game because CU fans "wouldn't appreciate their greatness". I thought maybe the University of North Texas One O'Clock Lab Band was coming to the game and got excited.
