Reminds of last Tourney when Jamaal Tinsley went all the way ala Tyus Edney but bricked the layup, what happened to Tinsley anyways?

Silly me, and here I thought you guys were being shallow, but come to find out the reason you're so happy Duke lost is because the media of all things talks about them too much and there's just too many articles written about them. I'm beginning to understand now.

I'm a Duke fan. They lost this game twice: of their own accord by giving up a huge lead and with some questionable officiating down to the wire.

William free-throw should have sent it into overtime and Boozer got fouled on the putback. Why don't they call those contact fouls in the last minute again? BS.

Hats off to Indiana, though because they hung in there against all odds to play tough and eke out a win.

What do you all think of Jared Jeffries now. Is he still too soft?

Yeah, definitely a good comeback by Indiana. But I've been saying all season long that Jason Williams has simply not been as good as he was last year. Its just seems like these 5-18 games and 6-19 games happened much more frequently this season than last. And since he is the go-to guy you can pretty much attribute the near loss in the Notre Dame game and this game to Williams poor play. Then there's also the fact that Duke only has one big man. This is a reason why most so-called experts that I saw (don't know what some of these other people are reading) didn't pick Duke to win it all.

I think Duke was just kind of mailing it in this year. They never played with the kind of consistent intensity that they demonstrated last year when Williams and Duhon used to just destroy teams.

This Duke team should have been better but somehow they weren't.

All the big men got stronger and bigger (Dahntay Jones and Dunleavy versus Nate and Dunleavy from last year) and the guards were more experienced.

I wonder if one of the problems with Williams this year is that the ball was taken out of his hands much more. Duhon played more of the point with Williams playing a wing position much of the time.

Did you hear what the Indiana coach said after the game? Some words to the effect that Duke didn't like to play interior defense and if they would just get it inside, things would turn around.

    Well, hell, they sure did!

Duke needs to recruit BIG GUYS not an endless stream of perimeter players. In the last six years, he's had Brand and Boozer as consistently effective big men. That's just not enough.

I feel good for that Indiana point (2nd leading scorer) whose only basket was the go-ahead score. He let himself out of his doghouse.

I'm not a Duke fan by any stretch, but...

I'm glad that the media 'sucks Duke's jock' as to opposed to the jock of several other schools. If there's a D1 team with a larger commitment to graduating it's students, or a school with stronger undergrad accademics than Duke that plays at that level, I'd like to know about it.

The reason the media 'sucks Duke's jock' is the same reason that they (to a lesser degree) 'suck Princeton's jock' and didn't 'suck UNLV's jock' back in the day when Tarkanian was running criminals through the program. They do it because they admire them for having their priorities streight. They do it because if their children were phenoms looking to go to college, they'd be proud to send them to those schools.

In short, they do it because, as a school and a program developing young men on that level, Duke is simply better than the competition. If you believe otherwise, you are wrong.

Stanford has been to a final and has been a top 10 BB program the last 5 years ago and is a superior school academically but doesn't get the press. If you think it is just because Stanford lost in the finals I think you are mistaken. They are "rich smarty snottie" types at Stanford, somehow Duke doesn't get the same snottie snobby label.

The character building issue is overblown as well--I think it is more tied to racism or at least for non conformity in teams like Georgetown, Coogs, or Rebels. Hurley, Laettner, I am sorry but there is nothing more special about them than Tim Duncan or Rip Hamilton or most any star who made it through Knight's Indiana, Chaney's Temple or Smith's Carolina teams. And this is admitted from someone who thinks Knight is an egotistical tyrant.

Good riddance to the Dukies and their overblown hype.

Ottomaton. Good post! That's exactly how I feel too.

It really irks when people say they HATE Duke. That's pretty harsh words. The best I can tell is that its usually because jealousy of all the wins or they don't like the fact that something external to the program(like the media) may talk about them too much(but of course if it was their team getting all the press they wouldn't mind a bit). But to me, Duke is everything that is RIGHT with college sports, and I'll always enjoy watching them play. And I can definitely understand rooting against Duke. I go for the underdog in every other game except Duke games. But I don't understand the hatred some others feel for them.

Man-o-man. I can't complain about the Duke refs anymore, I just saw a far worse call in the Kent State game. They completely took away a basket towards the end of regulation.

God, Dick Vitale sounds like he's about to cry. Go ahead and slit your wrists b****.

Mike Davis' press conference should've consisted of three words-"**** Bobby Knight".

I hate Duke, and I'm ****ing estatic that they won't win again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shallow?! Jesus, talk about being overly dramatic. Dude, it is a sports game. This is not life or death. I am not tracking these Duke players down and insulting their families. I am happy that a team I dislike and wished to lose lost. But I suppose you, in all your apparent holyness, never once wished for a team to lose, or was happy when one did. Sports is about rooting for one team over another, dude. And there is nothing wrong with rooting against someone. Or do you get all upset and fussy when we Rockets fans openly hate on the Utah Jazz? Hey, if you liked Duke and wanted them to win, fine. Be upset, complain about officiating. Do what it is that Duke fans do. But don't try to call others shallow (it still makes me laugh) because they were rooting against someone you liked.

"Don't you have any non-partisan pins? You know, like 'Let the best man win' or 'Let's have a good clean election'?"

Those pissy Indiana Alums who nearly ran off Mike Davis and instead made Texas Tech paraphenalia the top selling stuff in the ON-CAMPUS athletics store don't deserve this. They can go **** themselves as well.

    I agree, unfortunately...

I'm a huge Duke fan.. My Dad went to West Point w/ Coach K and I've just always grown up rooting for them.. While it's heartbreaking that they lost, I know us Duke fans are far more fortunate than most fans because they consistently win 30 games and we get to see all their games on Nat'l TV, etc and they can't win it every year. College basketball is just too unpredictable and that's the magic of it...

I can totally understand why someone would hate Duke though.

I HATE the Yankees; probably for the exact same reasons.. They are perenially the best team. They get sucked off by the media all the time. Etc. etc. I was so happy to see them lose in the WS last year. I can relate to the Duke haters out there, although I will proudly profess my love for the team and especially Coach K. He really is the best Coach in College Basketball right now, imo.

I think this Duke team was more talented than last year, but really missed the leadership of Battier. Williams was very erratic most of the year, imo and the free throw thing is just inexcusable.. How can a guy who shoots 3's so well, miss so many free throws?

I could go off about how much this game sucked and how unfair the officiating was, but the bottom line is I have to hand it Indiana. They kept scrapping and fighting and put themselves in a position to win at the end and Duke failed to execute down the stretch.

Here's hoping that one of the underdogs in this Tourney will come out on top. Screw Maryland/Kansas.

One thing I can say for your team, 3fingeredgus, is that your coach is one hell of a classy guy. As soon as the game was over, instead of screaming and complaining about non calls like some of the bench players, the first thing he did was calm those bench players down and get them to just accept the result. Coach K is a great coach and person.

after just watching his press conference I was just thinking does the guy ever not take the high road. i mean he never says anything bad about anybody else and always takes the losses with class. I know i could never do it.

Damn this sucks, I'm a huge fan of duke and I had a test tonight so I couldn't watch it and as soon as cbs was about to show the score I knew they had lost. I could just feel it. Then when I saw how I was even madder. Gotta feel bad for williams with his end of game free throw problems (they have 4 losses right, weren't 3 of them by one measly point, pretty good).

Now to the more pressing matter. This ****ing opens the door wide open for OU to stroll into the title game. They have to play a 12 seed and then either a 10 or 5 to get to the title game. These teams are all on hot streaks that you know will end as soon as they play OU. Dammit, I get to UT and they win a football title the first year and now they will win a bball title the very next year. This ****ing sucks. And just as I was typing I remembered the two biggest threats left are KU and Maryland and they've already beaten both. Damn Damn Damn.

What are you talking about? I even said that I root for the underdogs in every game but the Duke game. I just like arguing about it because I have friends who HATE Duke like its goin' out of style. I mean its just such a trendy thing to hate Duke. But what's the reason? Is it because they're some evil team? No, they consistenly produce classy players like Battier, Brand, Hill, etc. They have a hugely respected coach. They graduate players. I can't think of more of a model college program than Duke, but all that's thrown out because people are jealous of all the attention they get from the media. And yes, to me that's kind of shallow.

But Jesus, I completely understand rooting against Duke. I'll be rooting against Maryland, Kansas, the Yankees and the Lakers this year. But imagine that it was your team losing and then after the game someone came up to you and started laughing (at the expense of college kids, no less) and saying "HAHA! So-and-so sucks! So-and-so is overrated!" You probably wouldn't just sit there and take it either, I would think you would try to defend your team, which is all I was trying to do. That's just being a fan. Didn't mean to come off "holier than thou." :)

Was it me, of did Jeffries not block Boozer out on the FT. The kid had every rebound in the second half but didn't block boozer out on the final play. I was like nooooooooo! Then I was like, phew.

When Boozer got blocked at the rim. That was my favorite moment tho. That was just like, 'go home, this game is ours'.
