Duke and Virginia, which is a better academic institution?

Why didn't I read this thread when I could go to W&M...

 

I agree with pole but most people do not actually seem to care about the actual education and thats why prestige is what its all about with the thread starter.. the topic is academia but his thread says otherwise

 

Reputation wise, Duke by a mile. You could probably get good education in both institutions, but a Duke degree is a lot more prestigious.

 

Lots of folks in this thread like to paint with a broad brush. If you are speaking of an undergraduate degree, Duke has more prestige than UVA, but not by a mile. This is more true nationally than on the East Coast where people understand how good a school UVA is.

For law school, I was trying to be kind, but anyone who thinks a Duke law degree is "more prestigious" than a UVA law degree simply doesn't know what they are talking about. Since the thread starter asked for advice, and noone has disproven my statements (in fact, Rimmy backed me up), I am done with this "debate."
