    Yay or nay?

I prefer dogs, but live in an apt and work odd hours so having one wouldn't be fair to the dog, so I was thinking about getting a cat since I miss having a pet. There does seem to be a stigma attached to it though...

I can live with you. It wouldn't be weird.

I had one for a few months when I was a Freshman in college. I had to give him away, though. I kept tossing him off of the balcony because he would sharpen his claws on my waterbed.

As long as you don't get a foofy little purebred show cat you are 100% good. Pound-for-pound the average street cat is tougher, meaner, and a better killer than any dog out there, which is why you have to own a small little one. If you owned one the size of a good sized dog, you would soon be a corpse. They are tough little bastards. There is nothing unmanly about that.

Your love life will improve dramatically.

Cats are great and girls love guys who get that. Ignore all the males posting, who know not of what they write.

Either you two have never owned a cat yourselves, or you really suck at raising them.

If you get a kitten and bring it up to be your own, it can be just as loyal/affectionate/playful as a dog, and it craps in a box.

OP: GHF said it, whether it's a dog, a cat, a ferret, a squirrel, or an aye-aye; nothing shows a guy's nurturing side like raising something cute and furry.

Refgal has 3 cats. I love them all. A cat can be a great pet. It isn't too clingy. It can be self-sufficient (uses a litter box and will just eat out of a full bowl all day long). At the same time, a cat can be very loving. When I go to the house, one of the cats just follows me around until I pet him. Great pet.

If you get a cat, shoot for something cool like a tiger, panther, or baby lion cub.....

Exactly. I had a cat for 14 years that was like that. He would even fetch.

Yes, the clawing of furniture sucks, but nothing beats being able to leave a cat alone for a few days knowing there won't be crap and piss all over the house. As long as you leave enough food and water and clean litter box you are good to go.

Cats are awesome. If you're not home much though you might want to get two. Cats can get upset if they're left alone too much. We have two brother cats and they take care of each other when we're away. To me, having two cats is less work than having one.

I will not stand for anyone disparaging the kitty.

Cats are like codependent babies that also want to feel independent. They also make the place stink.

Tough call, but the ladies would probably like a cat better than a dog in general.
