Suicide because you cannot gain an unfair advantage over women in a swimming competition?

Suicide because people like commodore keep on misgendering on purpose to annoy and add tension.

And to think that the sheer volume of hate people like her receive would just be magically erased if they stick to their birth gender sports league is asinine. People like commaddore use this issue as a crutch to **** on transgender people and it's god damn obvious

It's not hate to say that it doesn't make sense for this person to compete with people who clearly have a biological disadvantage when it comes to racing each other. They have just as much of a right to be in a fair competition as this person has to change their gender.

Neither Commodore nor anyone else is stopping this person from changing their gender.

Where it becomes unfair is when this person insists on participating in a competition where it is obvious to anyone with a modicum of common sense that the person isn't competing on equal footing.

What do you think is the percentage of people who have this issue on their priority list of important issues call her "him"?

There are sincere people who understand this is an issue where both sides have legitimate complaints. Then there is the right wing agenda from people like commaddore who use this issue as a avenue to **** on transgender people. Him misgendering her constantly is an obvious indication of this.

I have tremendous sympathy for male to female transgender folks. I think they are probably the most marginalized and stigmatized group in the entire world. I don't have any problem with them existing and I never make light of their struggles or make jokes at their expense, that's inhumane.

That being said, to protect the integrity of the gender based division in sport, I think they should be precluded from competitive sport. (NCAA, Olympics, Pan-American games etc etc)

That sucks but one party or the other is going to be left disappointed and after giving it some thoughtful consideration, I think it has to be the male to female transgender athletes.

See, stuff like this is unnecessary and cruel.

We can hold the opinion male to female transgender persons should be precluded from participating in sport but we should be as kind as possible about it.

She could still keep swimming without competing .

athletes all the time have to make decisions about what’s more important to them - competition , or some other things .

at a high level , an athlete sacrifices much to hone their craft .

obvious advantage is obvious . I don’t think it’s the right answer to make someone take more hormones , more drugs . There’s science saying that after a certain age some factors are set in stone (due to biological differences)

Yeah I don't think that's the right solution either.

There just isn't a good solution to this that does justice to both sides.

That's a long read for women's sports, and you're right - no clear solution. Without Title 9, this probably wouldn't be an issue as women's college sports would barely exist. The hate towards her is bad, but so is her personal selfishness, and so is everyone else's because they care so much about winning. But that is what's important in sports, winning.

Maybe she is selfish. But regardless of what people say, what she is doing takes courage.

That's fair. And I like what Brooke Forde said:
But that's not sports life in general. We respect and applaud sportsmanship, and shame people when they don't show it. But as whole, society celebrates winning more than anything else.

This is what an actual empathetic take looks like.

No one here is saying the women athletes here don't have a legitimate complaint.

What a joke of a take. So before the trans athlete controversy, transgender people were well integrated into society without being persecuted resulting on high suicide rates? That didn't happen I guess? NOW that this issue aroise, that's where transphobia is generated. Right...

    For **** sakes.

It does, and as much as one can argue that's not what supports is about, that it's about the competition....it's still hard if you train all your life with countless hours and sacrifice, to feel you are being denied something unfairly.

There just doesn't seem a good way out of this.
