Holy Crap!!!! This thing is still under review, but its proposed height is 1Km and over 200 mother freakin floors!!!!!!
I own a business in Fulbright Towers and Continental I in Downtown. Both are about 50 stories high. I cant even imagine four of these puppies stacked on top of each other!
The thing about Dubai is that they have made the decision to not settle for being anything less than the most modern and extravagant city in the world, and they will go over the top almost every time to do it. I know they're flush with money, but damn they're ambitious!
What are the politics like there? Is there a chance it could ever be invaded by a neighboring country? From what I understand, Kuwait was a pretty nice place until Saddam invaded it. Though i'm sure they've rebuilt by now.
Dubai is leaps and bounds ahead of any place in the Middle East, and in a few years will be sitting at the top. It's pretty unfair to compare it to Kuwait. Qatar have a ****load more money than we do, and they want to do what we're doing, but for now are settling for copycat projects, and are finding difficulty being creative with their money. I know for a fact that they just put some high-tech crap all around the Palm which deals with erosion, water flow, etc etc... There's really no danger of a SUDDEN disaster, and anything that will take AGES to fix... There's enough money to fix it here... Burj Dubai will almost certainly be the tallest building in the world, the controversy surrounding Al Burj is just PR. Al Burj will be the third largest in the world, but I can't seem to remember who is building the second right now. As for politics... Mehh... You'll never run into it here... It's very much in the mold of London, Toronto, Hong Kong, and New York.. Super multi-cultural, but on top of that its rapidly growing. Oh... Yes, there is tons of space to build this stuff, but they're making other things like... One of the biggest stadiums in the world and the biggest water park, and festival city, and tons of housing based on God kows how many themes.. Healthcare city, the Dubai Financial Market, Dubai Land, the Marina, the Jebel Ali projects (La Laguna, Greens, Gardens, etc)... Biggest mall in the world and 3rd biggest mall in the world... Metro system... There's just so much going on I am honestly naming these things off the top of my head as I type... The idea is the oil is a non-renewable resource, and that they are creatively using the money to make this a country that doesn't need oil... So that if the oil finishes in around 6 years (highly unlikely), this city can sustain itself without it.. Population growth is insane as well... I believe Dubai has doubled over 3 years.. Any kind of investment you can make in ANYTHING that is not completed yet will make you money down the line... Hell, its become so crazy that people buy 2 years before compeltion, and sell before completion because the price skyrockets so much.. You guys ever come down, let me know, I'll show you around... It's a beautiful city, I'm more than wiling to spend some time showing people around..
Thanks for the info. I know that many Lebanese businessmen in the past have said that Dubai was the 'model' for Beirut, but that Beirut had the advantage of good weather and the Mediterranean, not to mention better looking girls. I plan on making it down there at least once in the next few years, I might get in touch with you then...
Man... When all these projects are done im heading to Dubai! Sounds like an awesome place to go to for vacation.
Its an awesome place to go right now. Unbeliveable nightlife, restaurants and hottest women on the planet!
What a trip. There was an explosion of questionable development right off the coast driven by a small country awash in petrodollars. Today? The developments look more likely to eventually become drowned by the rising sea. Time will tell. Thanks for the update, @PhiSlammaJamma.
