I was about to post something like that until I relaized he was talking about the Galveston project. Why don't hurricanes/typhoons/tropicals cyclones affect coastal regions in Africa and the Mid-East? It seems to be warm enough there that they would form easily.
I know that typhoons hit the African coasts and I'm guessing there probably is some form of cyclonic storm that affects the Arabian coasts. Since Dubai in the Persian Gulf which is fairly land locked they are probably spared hurricane type events with huge stormsurges. I bet they get pretty bad sandstorms though.
I love projects like this and it looks really cool [here comes the] but don't they (UAE) have PLENTY of land they could develop along the coast near Dubai especially for 14 billion + ? [Checks map] They plenty of coast in that area to work with -- strange project really. Isn't this thing just waaay over the top? It really is neat looking though.
I saw something saying that the design of the islands is causing erosion problems along the shoreline. Its going to be a long term maintenance project. It is over the top but pretty cool
looks like an amazing building.^^^ just wondering...would that make it the tallest building in the world?
Yup, it was the building I was asking about on the first page. The final height is being kept secret due to competition from another skyscraper only 30 miles way, the Al Burj. Both buildings are expected to be over 2000 feet tall.
they should make a mall like that where Astroworld used to be....its gotten pretty boring here in H-Town...
They are estimating 2650 which would make the tallest building beating Taipei 101. There is another building though that is rivaling it called Al Burj. Before this thing was gonna be in the middle of the 3rd Palm Island. Can you imagine that? Al Burj Also making largest Waterfront and Mall in the world.
Are you sure about that? I don't think there is a building called "Al Burj". I've been to Dubai four times in the last three years. Easily my favorite city in the world. Was trying to start a biz over there, but didn't really work out. They are going to have the: Worlds tallest building 2 malls are competing to be the biggest malls in the world (Dubai Mall and Mall of Arabia) They are basically trying to build the biggest and best of everything. Dubai does not have alot of oil. I dont know if this is a true story or not, but one day the Shiek of Dubai asked his councellors how they can keep up with Abu Dhabi (another emirate of UAE with lots of oil and unbelievable amount of money). The Sheik or his councellors figured out they might not have alot of oil, but have plend of sand and water. So they decided to throw some freakin sand on water and make it stick (thus the Palm Islands). When the Palm Jebel Ali released its first lot of properties, I recieved an invitation to buy a "Water Home". I had registered for it jokingly a few months in advance. Of course I didn't have the $750K to get it, but not the thing is going for over $4M!!!! The thing wont be ready for another 6 years!!!!!
