Well, apparently his best friend was handcuffed and arrested in Dubai because the police wouldnt worship the ground he walked on. Source is obviously biased though as I heard it from a friend in Dubai.
hey dubai apologists, want to defend this? oh i know. you'll say the US tortures too. and of course that absolves the UAE. abc the video is on the link. i don't care to watch torture...but if you're interested.
I'm watching Nightline right now and they are showing some of the torture tape and it is pretty rough.
Disgusting honestly. I must say I am for torture in absolute extreme circumstances (Hitler for example). But in this case, it's wrong if the allegations are true. I will point out that this has nothing to do with Dubai though. The Sheikh Mohammed mentioned in the article is the crown prince of Abu Dhabi. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan = crown prince of Abu Dhabi. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum = Ruler of Dubai.
what do you mean if the allegations are true? you can watch the tapes and the government has admitted its him. also i know the distinctions between the emirates. but i think this pattern of behavior, notably being above any accountability whether in terms of labor rights or generally having any real rule of law, is to a degree shared by much of the GCC, with perhaps only kuwait being the notable exception. also since abu dhabi is the de facto ruler of the UAE...i didn't feel the need to start a new thread on this.
I meant if the reasons for the torture are true. If this man was raping handicapped children, for example, I would be fine with the video. I don't think there's a country on this planet that doesn't toture people at all. Maybe a few selected European countries are exempt but that's it. So obviously, yes, the Gulf Arab countries are included. I don't understand why you're making a distinction though regarding them? Are they especially not supposed to do it? Otherwise, I agree that there are accountability problems regarding the rule of law in the world, GCC included and I, like you, would like to find solutions to them. Reagrdng Abu Dhabi, I believe it is basically it's own country, which is evident by Dubai going through a gigantic credit crisis right now and Abu Dhabi trying to feast on it by acquiring Dubai's major governmental entities.
