    Honestly
That is what started this thought process
Because it is bigger than Education . .it is crime. .it is poverty
One's Education is a driving factor in alot of that
and I just don't think 16 yr olds are mature and well informed enough
    to make that decision

    I'm still thinking on it

No thanks. The Government isn't going to own me and call me up anytime they want. Not to derail the thread, but it should stay voluntary. Thats just putting way too much on young adults. They have to worry about graduating high school, hold down a job among multiple things and now they have to deal with this mandatory military crap.

Hell, the military/army isn't full of saints either. I've heard some pretty horrible military stories that defies human rights. I definitely wouldn't want my kid to be forced into that.

I think you hit it on the head, kids from poor families are definitely more likely to drop out of high school then those from wealthy ones.

If you decide to force those kids to stay in school you run the risk of them bringing down the educational environment and end up wasting alot of money on people who don't appreciate the help. But you might be able to influence a few kids who might have not had the determination to succeed if you didn't force school down their throats.

On the other hand if you just cut your loses and focus your time and resources only on those who wish to be there, there will be the problem of increasing the gap of the rich and the poor, since kids from poor families will most likely to just dropout and be a burden to society in the long run. But you will increase the education environment, be able to offer more help to families whose kids who actually want a good education but have financial trouble.

While it is a noble effort to try and cure poverty I don't think you can end it. There will always be rich people and poor people in the world, I guess the only thing you can try to do is throw the poor a rope and hope they can climb out of the hole themselves.

I think that is what I'm getting at
is I know you cannot CURE POVERTY
    but
I think we should give people as much opportunity as possible
    and
I am beginning to think that 16 yr olds cutting themselves off from opportunities
is just a little to early

I think I am tilt more toward the School Exit Program
I mean I don't even think they have HOME EC anymore at schools
much less any meaningful LIFE SKILLS classes
