So, let me get this straight....this is a thread about people who wish it was easier to drive home drunk? AND it is, shockingly, supported by Fatty? God, I love this place.
I have a friend who was driving once while eating Mother's Circus Animal cookies. She was looking down, trying to pick out a pink cookie rather than a white cookie, and she slammed into the car in front of her. I tried to tell her that they all taste the same...
ooooohhhhh man, do i have a funny story involving some good hallucinogens, driving, and a refrigerator on the road...
i got no respect for people who drink and drive......even if they're buzzed. i cant believe i used to do that ****
Doesn't Austin have the 'drunk bus' for people who go to 5th/6th street on weekends? Something like that costs the city/state FAR less than it would to have people getting pulled over or getting into injury accidents. Fatty makes a good point that the government is money grubbing for not implementing free transportation services for their citizens, which is far more cheap for everyone in the long run. Implementing super harsh DWI laws is not the answer, it's proactive effort by the government. I'm not going to condone driving under the influence, but it certainly gets a bad rap compared to how much more dangerous tired drivers, cell phone drivers, bad drivers, etc are. I'd rather drive after having 3-4 beers than let my girlfriend drive sober. She's just not a good driver. Really ask yourself what is more dangerous to society: an 18 year old kid driving 60 mph down a suburban neighborhood street or an experienced driver driving over the legal limit at 3 AM down empty streets going the speed limit. The former is far more dangerous IMO and isn't punished anywhere as severely as the latter.
? If we are actually talking about a 'drunk driver', then said person isn't going to be driving like an 'experienced driver going the speed limit'. If that was the case, drunk driving wouldn't be a problem, ever. The question doesn't really mean anything.
Drunk people are too stupid to take care of themselves, but then they're too stupid to be able to drive. Wait a second...
He's saying if most people who drived buzzed actually make an effort to pay more attention to their surroundings (even if it is to no avail), then if they made that same effort while sober, then the roads would be safer.
Too bad there is not more public transportion...IE Light rails etc......so you can get blasted and catch a train home. DD
I think there is a problem with this 'any means necessary' point of view. We could make it a capital offense to drive drunk and that would undoubtably decrease drunk driving, but is that a just punishment? No. Similarly we could make running a red light or speeding through a school zone a capital offense (unless there is an emergency maybe). Many people are killed when people run red lights and lots more injured (ask Deckard). If you run a red light, you're not endangering just yourself, you endanger everyone on the road. Should selfishness like that be punished and discouraged by any means necessary? I think not. Statistically the overwhelming majority of people who drive 'buzzed' do not injure anyone and yet face severe punishment. Not sure that's the answer.
geez, i guess you just stay home and play WoW all day, every day. i'm glad you never go out past midnight.
I've known too many people who has been killed due to drunk drivers. It's just not worth it to drink and drive and plus the fines are just wayyy to high if you ever get caught. If I remember correctly, I think it's at least $10,000 for the fines, bonds, lawyer, etc. I agree with Fatty on having better public transportation.. but I doubt that's going to happen anytime soon. Too many people have been complaining about public transportation for Years, and what did the city do? Give us a shyte metro rail system that only creates more traffic, hence polution. And here I go on a tangent..
The E-Bus in Austin is for UT students only. It's funny to ride it on the way home cause there is a puke bag on every seat
Another law is that you can't get your concealed handgun carry license if you have had a DWI. I think that is a joke.
