What a terrible tragedy. There is nothing funny about it whatsoever. A few weeks ago, I was going down a one lane road about 50 mph when a dog ran in front of my car suddenly. My choice was to either swerve and go into a ditch or run it over. I deliberately decided to run the dog over rather than risk my own safety. If it had been a human being, different decision.
Not to be a jerk, but try telling that to the man that just over 36 kids. If an animal runs out in front of me, I'll try to break if I can but I won't yank the steering wheel. Human safty trumps animal safty everytime. If you want your cats to be safe, keep them indoors.
I would squish the kitty and feel bad about it...but the guy needs to be more aware of everything around him....always leave an out. I try to avoid any animals, except that damned armadillo that is chewing up my back yard, him I would swirve INTO.... DD
I don't understand, for one, what is so funny about small children being hurt. While experts agree that it's often safer to hit a small animal than to risk hitting other cars or people, that's very different from wanting to run them over. I worry about all these guys who hate cats. This lack of respect for something relatively small and defenseless is a bad sign in terms of a person's character. Even if you don't enjoy playing with them or petting them, at least respect their right to live and be what they are. I'm just saying that it says something very negative about you if you hate small animals that much.
Uh...in general, I agree with you. If it isn't a safe option, you do what you have to do (unfortunately). But it's not anywhere near that hard to make quick judgements on the road. And I don't even own a cape.
I am sorry to all animal lovers but I am not about to swerve to miss an animal. I am not saying that I would run over an animal on purpose but I am not going to swerve and put myself or others at danger for an animal. If I have enough time I would try to slow down or stop to allow the animal to get out of my way but that is about as far as I would go. Several years ago here in Arkansas in a town called Forrest City, a woman driving her husband and three children swerved to miss a dog. The van she was driving rolled over into a ditch. Her husband and her three children died and she lived. My father had always told me if an animal gets in my way don't swerve to miss it and that event just put further emphasis on his statement.
Oh come on. Everyone knows that if you hate cats, you're macho. Especially if you let everyone know you hate cats. This is always a good idea because you wouldn't want anyone to think you're gay or anything...
We took 6 kids to a halloween party saturday night, walking to and from the car I made damn sure that they were out of the street. I see nothing funny in this idiot man's actions.
My general rule is if I can safely slow down, I will do so to avoid hitting a small animal. Twice I have been unable to do so and the cats have died. I felt very guilty about it, but I was on a major street doing 40 mph and they just out of nowhere ran in front of my car. I had a coach who once dodged a squirell and ended up hitting a telephone pole. Here in Arizona it is the birds that I have hit. In one year I have taken out three doves on the highways around Tucson. The explosion of feathers after impact is like the time Randy Johnson hit the bird with a fastball.
So is it okay if instead of a cat it was another kid that he was avoiding. Or is it prudent to also accelerate in that case and hit the kid, because clearly that would be the better option than running into 36 of them?
hahahahah classic! I hate cats for the following reasons: 1. I'm allergic to them 2. Their urine is awful, more awful than any other creature 3. I'm allergic to them But I would never kill one, I just choose to not have any around me if possible.
I was driving my truck one day and saw this bird flying across the road I was driving. I thought to myself, "There is no way that this bird doesn't see" THWAP!!! I looked in my rear view mirror and wondered if the bird may have lived, but the person behind me finished the job. I had a small dent just above the windshield. Stupid bird committed suicide.
Samething happend to me, a bird went straight for my car and hit the front fender before it flipped over my car, I saw it land in the rear view mirror.
In my old '84 Mustang, I was going down a lightly trafficked 4 lane cruising at about 90 mph. Of course, a bird flew right across and into my windshield. I had about a 3 inch line crack across the front of my windshield directly in front of me and a little bit over my line of sight. It scared the bejesus out of me, and when I looked in rear view mirror, I didn't see a trace of it...I may have launched it into orbit!!! I was quite surprised how well the windshield held up to a 90 mph bird impact.
