Man, Saabs and Mercedes used to be tanks. You still see some of those old beat up Mercedes from the 70's running around... probably with over 300-400,000 miles on them. I think either Saab or Mercedes (maybe both) had some promotion where they gave you a brand new car if your old one hit 1 million miles. lol.

Ahh...those old Benzes could drive through the Great Wall and keep going. That was back when "German Engineering" was the envy of the world; everyone understood what the words meant.

My uncle (may he RIP) had an early 70's model (I think it was 73) Mercedes 200D. That car WAS a tank, and it lasted forever.

Mercedes made rock-solid vehicles up until the mid/late 80's, then it was all downhill from there...at least until the recent models (or so they would like us to believe), but that remains to be seen...

This thread is giving me hope and confidence to drive my 2000 Prelude for another 90K miles hahah. It's currently at 110K and is a money pit, but the challenge itself is pretty interesting.

I am planning on doing that with at least one of my vehicles. It should be fun seeing how far I can go with doing only basic maintenance/small repairs while the miles rack up...

I put about 200,000 miles on my Acura Integra, but I did it in less than five years.

Thankfully, I've been able to cut down on my driving significantly since then (my 3-year old Mazda only has 28K miles on it).
