Drexlerisms.

I know this is a very late response, but I thought I'd remind you of the pre-Clyde era. Remember Calvin Murphy? Would you rather have him raise a bunch of moron Rocket fans instead? I use to hate Drexler's commentary, but at least we can make this thread I don't remember any color person for the rockets ever being insightful and you just don't watch the games to be educated...Other than JVG, there are very few intelligent commentators our there.

 

I noticed that too - he said Scola's release was just phenomenal. I guess he meant like a work of art or something?

 

Clyde doesn't make the most insightful comments but he is definitely entertaining

 

I remember a game against the Nuggets earlier this year and he gets talking about how he recruited Chris "Birdman" Anderson during his tenure at UH. He ended up going to Blinn JC. Clyde commenting on his "substance abuse issues" said something like:
"He was a good kid and a great player. He always had drug problems. Even though it was only mar1juana, he still needed to clean up and get his head right"
I didn't get the quote completely right, but I remember thinking, wow, Drexler just said it was "only mar1juana" and then gave a little chuckle. That was ballsy of the old man! I'm sure he puffed a few in his day.

God, please remove Clyde as the color guy for Rockets games. Nothing against Clyde but there are other people with talent that deserve this job, and could do it better. Its like starting a less talented player on a team just because of his name.

I was never a fan of Calvin but at least what he said made sense to him. And he said them much faster. Clyde's rants drag on a little to long, and they make him laugh a little to much.

Before the play started where Yao faked the shot and threw it in the scola for the goahead basked (Rckets are down 1 at that point), Clyde says "the Rockets need to go for the win", you think

Great player, seems like a nice guy but is horrendous as the color guy. He adds nothing, no insight.
