Anyone that calls people "high" or a "doofus" for making a choice that is obviously a very close call is indeed welcome to wear the doofus hat himself/herself or take a good, long toke off the "wacky weedus". How silly to imply that it's such a clear-cut decision when talking about two of the top 100 best basketball players of all time. Here are some of the arguments we've heard: Shaq any day over Hakeem Kobe any day over Jordan Bird any day over Magic Barkley any day over Malone Pippen any day over Kobe Bradley any day over Yao Etcetera, etcetera. Maybe Kobe over Clyde, maybe Clyde over Kobe. That's the best argument to decide among two NBA greats.
Kobe's Q rating is among the worst of any athlete. I remember on ESPN a year ago or so saying that in a poll 48% of people who knew of Kobe didn't like him. I wouldn't call that popularity, I mean you see many fans here are voting against Kobe simply because he is an a$$hole. If you look at the PER numbers posted earlier in this thread, you'll see that Kobe is the more effective player.
Dan, Sorry, but Bill Laimber (sp?) was a Top 50 player, and I'd choose Kobe over him. Want a closer analogy? Go to NBA.com's history page, find a guard other than Jordan that has played in the league within the last 15 years, and tell me who's better than Kobe. I know that I am coming off harsh on you - and I intended to do so, but my reason is because you are taking me to task over an email that expresses an opinion that is obviously biased, leaves no room for debate, and categorically rejects others' opinions. So you have fought the battle of who could care less, and shot yourself in the head in the process. You just wasted your time by responding to an email that, in the first line, acknowledges the lack of tact contained therein. Regards, A-hole first, can sometimes care less second
What I meant by popularity its that kobe is a current player, and is more fresh to the mind for a lot of people, some people dont remember very well clyde playing.
I love Clyde, followed his career since Phi Slamma Jamma. Only a few players (Oscar, MJ, Magic, etc) in NBA history are as good or better than Kobe, and Clyde is not one of them. But that is not a knock on Clyde. He was one of the best. Only one player in NBA history has scored more points in one game than Kobe, and that is something.
You win. Bill was a top 100, not a top 50... Now go debate G.W. Bush about WMDs, wiretapping, the War in Iraq, social security, school voucers, etc. Maybe you'll change his on some of these issues. Okay, nevermind, you won't....
Too bad some of those greats didn't get to play against the 04-05 toronto raptors or their might be a few more 100 point games in the record books. Oh and as far as players that are better than Kobe in the last 15 years... looking at Playoff stats I would say TMac and DWade. Kobe's numbers in the playoffs where you don't get to play against the raptors and score 81 points are very simular to Clyde's. Kobe averaged 3 more points but Glyde had 2 more rebounds and 1.6 more assists as well as better steal numbers. Kobe's game is not as complete as Clyde's and Clyde is a better teamate (basketball is a team game) and person. Clyde >>>>> kobe Shame on anybody from this board that voted for a Faker rapist over a Rocket Legend.
dude. how is kobe greedy? Jordan had as many assist over his career as kobe and he took a lot of shots, avged 31 ppg... u guys are just hating.. i dont get it. stop please
and scoring was higher in the eighties, so we could adjust for that. but that would be silly, just like discounting what kobe has done against bad teams in his playing days. when you do this type of analysis, you can only judge how good a player was in his era.
Buck Williams was the true leader of those Blazers team that went to the Finals, he was the enforcer, their vocal leader, the anchor for them and it wasn't until Buck joined the team they became a true contender.
I'm a homer when it comes to the Rockets but the comparision isn't fair....Kobe is a tremendous scorer and an individual talent...He can score at will and when he is in a zone, there is nobody that can cover him...He is also money down the stretch (most of the time).....Clyde was awsome too but he isn't Kobe....If we were talking about being a betteer team leader and professional then of course its Clyde but talent wise, I would have to say Kobe...
Yes, that is something - good marketing for a bad team. I remember David Robinson scoring 70+ points in the last game of the season to get the scoring title away from Shaq. Great players CAN do it, but it doesn't mean they should.
Speaking of high scorers, only TWO GUARDS in ROCKETS HISTORY scored over 50pts in one game. HINT: One was Calvin Murphy HINT: This other guard played the MAJORITY of his career with the ROCKETS. Props to the 1st person to answer this question.
major props to saleem. As you know Drexler never scored 50pts with the Rockets and Vernon did. Also they both played with that Hakeem dude. That Cleveland team was a good team too, not the Toronto Raptors of last year Brad Daugherty Larry Nance Craig Ehlo Danny Ferry Chucky Brown Darnell Valentine Hot Rod Williams Gerald Paddio John Morton Henry James Steve Kerr Mark Price Winston Bennett Derrick Chievous Milos Babic Mike Woodson
