Kobe will never sniff glory again without riding another dominant player's coattails. Clyde in a freaking landslide.
I think Kobe is really good talent wise, but his persona is not so hot. Clyde on the other hand, pretty damn good as well, public personna hot. Both damn good though, but overall, I would say, The Glide. Probably has a lot to do with being a Rockets fan (even though I live in SA).
We do not think our players are always the best, I do not think Bowen is one of the greatest ever. However I also do not think Kobe is one of the greatest ever, when he gets the lakers in the finals(without shaq) as the best of the team we will see again, until then Clyde is better IMHO
Objectively, the it is very close talentwise. Clyde is better in passing and rebounding. Kobe is a better shooter and has better range. Defense is about the same. But as many has mentioned, whatever persons they are off the course, Clyde's game was team oriented. Kobe's is not. For the people who mentioned "clutchness" they are mostly thinking about last second shots. It is true that Kobe probably made more "clutch shots" than Clyde. But what does that have to do with being a better player? Horry is one of the most clutch players of all time. Nobody has ever compared him with any superstar. And Reggie Miller is perhaps the most clutch guy. He has never been considered one of the top 10 or 20 players in history, as Clyde and Kobe are. You need to be in the right situations to make winning shots. And while making the shots relates to talent, being in the situations does not.
Clyde may not have had that many memorable clutch shots, but that's because he was a team player who made others better, so in most games, they were too far ahead to be forced into a clutch shot situation.
Clyde never won a title without Hakeem, so you can't say Kobe never won a title without Shaq without the same criticism being levelled against Clyde. Besides Kobe won more titles. The fact that Kobe has a slight majority on a Rockets forum indicates that Kobe must be clearly better. If this were a neutral forum (not Lakers, Trailblzaer, or Rockets) I'd say the margin would be at least 75-25 in favor of Kobe.
he did that on a collective 40% for the series. I was surprised to see those scores, but I wasn't surprised to see the pct. I remember kobe giving him trouble after game 1, although to be honest he didn't shoot that well in game 1 either.
I would much rather have the ball in Clyde's hands at the end of the game not because he is a better shooter but because Clyde is going to do whatever is best for the team to get a win. Kobe is going to ignore every other person on the court and take the shot himself, you know it, I know and so does everyone that has ever seen Kobe play. Basketball is a team game. Kobe is not a team player. Logic would conclude that Kobe is not a great basketball player. He is supremely tallented and if he had any idea what it means to make players around him better he MIGHT be the greatest of all time. It will never happen and he will go down as somebody that could have done more than he has. Clyde over Kobe.
I don't need to restate what KingCheetah and Mateo already said... represent, mo fo's!!!! Clyde, b*tches! mateo, I vote Snickers Bar. If you don't vote Clyde, you stand for rapists, and the jihadists will win. Uhhh... why are you starting 3 guards, a small forward, and a GREATEST OF ALL TIME CENTER? You need to replace a guard with a forward, man.
Clyde's in the SF slot. With Dream in the paint, MJ, Clyde, Magic, and Bird can play passing lanes... I don't care what forwards are on the other team, they can't score if they can't get the pass. Even if they do get the pass, Dream's there and the others are quick enough and long enough to shut down the passing options. On offense, this team fastbreaks at every opportunity and if they have to slow it down, Clyde's the designated cutter... as Bird said during Clyde's rookie year, "I could make that guy a star."
I lash out at folks for being overly critical of others' opinions, but this whole pole is retarted. If you voted for Clyde Drexler over Kobe, you are a doofus. Period. People still debate whether Portland should have drafted Jordan instead with the No. 2 pick in the '84 draft. But Portland drafted Drexler the year before, and, so even though Bowie wound up sucking, nobody can fault Portland for looking to shore-up a position of need. But as I understand this question, it simply asks who in retrospect/theory you'd rather have on your team. I don't care whether than means this year's team or any team, you are high if you don't say Kobe. Kobe is a better defender, scorer, shooter, rebounder (?)...everything is better about Kobe's game. Despite the Shaq-Kobe rift that some people hype-up, Kobe deferred to Shaq during those title runs. The Lakers lost that last Shaq-era playoff series because Shaq was a fat-a$$ and Malone was hurt. Don't blame Kobe for being a ball-hog; he did what he had to do by taking all of those shots. But back to my point: Kobe any day over Clyde. If you disagree, you are a homer or once mistook Clyde's mangina for a flute.
The reason why Kobe would win over Drexler is for popularity, and because Kobe is a current player. Clyde wasnt spectacular like kobe, but drexler was more effective.
