As much as some haters have come to doubt Hakeem over time, very few remember how great David Robinson was. David Robinson is a top 7 or 8 all-time center, probably the second-most athletic 7-footer ever, and was in the middle of his prime in 1994-95. And Hakeem made him look silly. It's what happens when a great player is forced to guard the greatest. David Robinson was the Mickelson to Hakeem's Tiger. In David Robinson's own words: "It's hard to say this with a straight face, but I thought I played pretty good defense against him. He was remarkable." A debatable question is Admiral or Shaq. When Hakeem gets thrown into the mix, there's no debate left.
Dream's moves are so much better and he is def more versatile than Shaq. i mean the fade, the hook and the dream shake come on, no contest
This isnt even a contest. Forget comparing Hakeem to Shaq, you have to compare him against Wilt and Russell. Not to sound bias but Dream is the greatest center of all time. At his peak, he was simply unguardable. He could score inside and out.
how do you say that shaq is better???? Of course not. Hakeem was better, look the stats, hakeem was dominant in the two sides of the field. Hakeem was so good, very skilled players, with great moves, shaq the only thing he had is strength, but you can beat that with speed and agility. No question at all, Hakeem all the way!!!
lol, why would anyone on a houston rockets basketball forum vote shaq? I'd like to see how a Hakeem or Yao poll would do.
I didn't vote b/c my choice is: Hakeem - b/c he kicks shaq's butt. the choices suck b/c they made it sounds like shaq is better but rockets fans vote for Hakeem for other reasons.
7 percent voted for the Big Fatso? The Big-Mac? We gotta catch these guys, anyone who goes for Shaq is horrible. And the MAIN reason is because of his arrogance, his rudeness, and the way he treats other people. Look at what he did to miami? Look at what he said. Even if Hakeem wasn't a better player, he sure hell was a better person. I wouldn't vote for a guy who trashes other teams, and a guy spoke racist remarks to Yao Ming.
Last evening I saw flashes of Hakeem's play on Tv, shown in association with his secection to the Hall of Fame. I was reminded most forcefully that Hakeem was the greatest athletic Big Man player ever in the NBA. By comparison, all the other Great Centers were just tall stiffs. Hakeem was the only one who did what he did and he did it without a street mentality!! Dwight Howard is no comparison to Hakeem! The only comparison is to say that both could jump and dunk and that is it!!!
I don't think Russell is a fair comparison, because dude couldn't score to save his life and played with allstars his whole career. Just imagine if Dream only focused on blocking shots and rebounding. Get out of here. Rebounding avg of 20 per game and 8 blocks shots per game.
Can't agree with this, Hakeem is better (Shaq says the same). However, Shaq is a great person with a big heart and gives continuously. I've seen this up close and in person. Shaq is my fraternity and chapter brother and doesn't like his good works to be advertised.
This morning Mike and Mike were talking about this. First they asked who was a better center between Dream and Ewing. They both said that it was without question Olajuwon and then Greeney went on to talk about how people try to rate Shaq as the next best center behind Russel, Jabbar, and Chamberlain. He said that it has to be the Dream after those 3, he didn't discuss those 3 because it is hard to justify someone you didn't actually watch in their prime. Both eventually agreed that he was the best center after them because he was superior to Shaq in footwork (and everthing else too). It really makes me angry that Ewing was put in the HOF the same year as Olajuwon, its a little disrespectful to me because i think he was really overrated. This whole discussion is a little lame to me too. What exactly has Shaq ever been better than Olajuwon at? being big? If anything he has won atleast 3 championships with way more help than the Dream had. He had the second best SG of all time playing with him.
ewing and hakeem will forever be connected, from georgetown/uh to the rockets first championship and as much as i'm not a fan, ewing held his own. ewing is a hall of famer, especially considering its not the NBA hall of fame, you have to remember that. they just happen to hang em up the same year i guess.
