This Lopez guy is a complete MORON! He overreacts on basically everything. I still for one believe that Hakeem is going to be back when all is said and done. ------------------
It's a shame, I'm gonna miss Dream. ------------------ "He treats us like men. He lets us wear earrings." -Torrin Polk, University of Houston receiver, on his coach, John Jenkins, 1991 "Left hand, right hand, it doesn't matter. I'm amphibious." -Charles Shackleford of the NCSU basketball team The Highest Leapers in the NBA
1) Hakeem's English STILL isn't that good, I'm positive. 2) Signed for less money? He's commanding more than the early bird (6+ million) now. It's NOT Hakeem's decision, and Hakeem would be the same Hakeem to me even if he were starting for the Jazz. The ball is not in Rudy's court. He has less than 1 40% chance of signing Marc Jackson. Hakeem's displays after the All Star break last season are worthy of the top 7 or 8 Centers in the league. He would be a top 4 or 5 C in the East. Loyalty he HAS, which is why he halted the trade. If he didn't, he'd be contending in Toronto with more shots, and we'd be stuck with kelvin Cato at C, backed up by Collier, who's been out for a season. Don't try putting the blame on Hakeem, cause he sure as hell deserves more than 5million a season with the way he's been playing. ------------------
Dream, are you still mad about the ESPY award poster I signed back in '94? C'mon, those exhaust fumes I was breathing in at UPS made my brain go wacko. It was a stupid college-kid joke, man. Don't take it out on all the fans of Houston. I admit it, it was me. So sue me, but stay in Houston. Sign that contract with Houston! ------------------ Can you smell what Dwayne Johnson is Cooking?
Hi everyone... Unfortunately, this is just another sad chapter in the history of Houston sports. The Oilers had (IMO) the GREATEST running back of all time, Earl Campbell. The guy was a man among boys, dragging 2 and 3 DB's into the endzone like he was a tow truck. If he could've finished his career in Houston, who knows how much better he would have done? But no... he retired a New Orleans Saint! Then their was Nolan Ryan. The man we watched throw his fifth no-hitter, his 5,000 strikeout. Then we had to watch in agony as he threw no-no's #6 and #7 and get win 300 in Dallas (no offense to Dallas people, but you Houstonians know that it was more painful to see it happen in DALLAS of all places... Imagine Hakeem winning a ring with the Spurs). And now, Hakeem. All-time blocked shots leader, owner of a quadrouple-double, only man to win MVP, finals MVP, and Defensive player of the year in one season (I think if someone else ever does that, it should be called having a "Dream Season"). Our third legendary athlete, our third #34 walking out the door to finish their historic career elsewhere. The Saints, the Rangers, and now the Raptors... ouch. ------------------ "It is better to be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt."
So some Chronicle writer says "it may be time for Hakeem to go", and now it's a done deal? Huh? This guy should be the highest paid columnist in the country if he's got that kind of power of persuasion. "Then a year ago, he had a poor first half, but a sterling second half and finished averaging 11.9 points in 58 games. Still, it was the most games Olajuwon had played since 1997" Pretty convenient how he doesn't point out that Hakeem played in 100% of the games in '99. ------------------ "Is that good for us?" --Rudy T, after Starks missed that 3 in the '94 Finals
But wasn't 1999 the strike-shortened 50 game year?? ------------------ "It is better to be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt."
The strike shortened season was 3 seasons ago - 1998-1999. Yes, Hakeem played all 50 games but only played 239 more minutes than this past season. IMO, it's also worth noting that Dream had a long off-season prior to the strike shortened season. ------------------ Raef to Rocks in '01-'02!
No team other then the Rockets, are offering a starting position. The Rockets and CD are offering market value. From what I hear, sign and trade deals are rich. Hakeem may be pissed, but what are his options? Unless he wants to drag it out. I wonder, is Toronto warm enough? I am not sure. Is Houston a contender? Houston is more of a contender then any other team!!!!!! ------------------
Anyone know the Heimlich maneuvre. Prepare yourself Achebe, because the Rockets have a tidy sum saved for Mo and Shandon. Why else would they be patiently waiting. ------------------ God help me, ...I was only nineteen. Current Rocket's Salary & Contract Info
Why would the Dream be happy about a contract that isn't worth a big man with his skill. Hell the Raptors are giving him alot more than the Rockets. Hopefully he will stay a Rocket or we get Clark. There is good Karma on Rockets side. They tried their best ------------------ Tennessee is a suburb of Houston. Go Oilers....
If ZRB gives up then you know the rockets did all they could.... ------------------ Reporter asks "How close were you to the victim?" Shorty says,"Real close until the roofies wore off. Then she woke up talking about pressing charges, so I took my tongue out of her ass and left." Shorty - Marlon Wayans "Scary Movie" Go Rockets!!! SS
I don't know why, but I have a feeling that Dream will accept this offer... . . However, I'm still holding out hope for CD to get rid of Cato as well - so you *know* that I'm an optimist. ------------------ Looks like the Sniper's aim was off....
John Lopez grew up and remains a Spurs fan. On top of that, he is an Aggie. All of his statements and opinions must be judged in this light. ------------------
Oh please...ZRB waffles back and forth more than an Eggo factory. Any normal person would get seasick watching ZRB swinging back and forth. If we were to judge a Rocket season, or hell, even a single game, by the way ZRB swings, we would alternate between NBA champs and lotteryville every 30 seconds. ------------------ A clear conscience is usually the sign of a bad memory.
Ego,Ego ,Ego that's what we're dealing with here. The proud warrior must save face like an aging Samurii. After a sufficient amount of time as the center of attention, Hakeem will sign with Houston saying something to the effect that he is signing on at whatever amount 'for the good of the team' because 'he loves Houston' and he has always wanted to retire a Rocket and have his jersey hanging in the rafters with Rudy T, Calvin, etc. Who the hell would really want to go to Toronto to work anyway. Away from friends, family, business interest, staying in some sterile hotel for 8 mos, paying Canadian taxes, freezing your ass off, wearing the one uniform in basketball more ridiculous than the Rockets (the fightin Barneys ). No way, not ever. ------------------ He's very popular, Ed. Sportos, Motorheads, Geeks, Sluts, Pinheads, Dweebies,Wonkers, Richies, they all adore him. I just wish I knew HTML so I could post a picture of their stupid mascot wearing that stupid dinosaur cartoon on his home jersey. CD should Fedex one to Hakeems house with his name on it, that would end this deal. ------------------ He's very popular, Ed. Jeff, excellent post and well thought out. It's rare that I give props for posts, however yours was right on the money. Dream has received his fare shake from the Rockets, especially the last couple of years in which missed significant time to age and injury. If there is another team that believes he can get them over the hump, then go for it. Steve, Cuttino, and Eddie are our future and we must move forward as quickly as possible. I would trade Cato for "a hot six pack of beer" a quote stolen from pyscho Buddy Ryan. ------------------ Let go and let GOD!
