Shaq the Brute, Hakeem the complete player, the one that could do all the things that Shaq cant!
Yao Ming brings in a new age and a special player could revolutionise the position.

and hakeems stats would have been higher if ralph sampson wasnt on the team. withouth sampson, they probably would have been closer to shaq's stats

At least if you don't consider Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Bill Russell.

First of all, let me say that this is a stupid thread. You don't compare 2 players at the end of their careers with all their glory on stat sheets to a rook. This thread would be far better if it was Dream vs. Shaq, which we had a while ago, once again making this thread stupid and pointless.

But... if we're to get into it, if we are comparing the players @ the end of their careers, assuming Yao lives up to his potential, the order would be:

    Yao, Dream, Shaq

In terms of rookie year performance, it would be:

    Dream, Shaq, Yao

Why there is always stupid poll? Wait till Shaq and Yao retire and then it makes a little bit sense of starting this poll.

why do people like to think that hakeem only had 2 or 3 great years? he was more refined at 93-95 but he was a beast from game one. he has a whole career of dominance except for the few years before the end. just ask jabbar how good dream was at the beginning.

No, see he said "ON DRAFT NIGHT". At no point did he say "based on career accomplishments". So I guess it's not a stupid thread afterall is it?

Or is it just that you didn't want Yao to actually lose a poll on this board?

Even on just Draft night, Hakeem would be an obvious choice. He was playing against NBA big guys and Moses Malone during summer sat University of Houston. And beating them I might add. Hakeem had already proved he could compete in NBA.

That's a great example of how amazing Shaq's speed is.

Obviously, it's difficult to compare Shaq and Hakeem because Hakeem was past his prime by the time Shaq hit his. Most of the greatest players in the history of the league are centers. Look at Russell, Chamberlain, and Abdul-Jabbar, for instance.

I think it's safe to say that Shaq has been the most powerful center ever, and it's also probably safe to say that Hakeem had the most finesse.

Beyond that, it depends on what you value more. Hakeem was a work of art, but Shaq is near unstoppable.

Shaq in his prime isn't a complete player. Hakeem was. Hakeem in his prime is a freak with the combination of power, athleticism and skills. Shaq in his prime can't hit free throws and isn't much more powerful than when he's young, exactly when he was humbled by an AGING Hakeem.

Given that Shaq is getting old, Dream is old, and yao is young,

    Yao

The problem is we are over "draft night" and you can take away people's knowledge before they vote.

Suppose you start a poll: if you have to choose one of the two, who would you choose?
    Choice a): Julia Roberts
Choice b): the 12 year-old neighbor girl who are extremly cute.
The twist is: think about it as if Julia Roberts were also at her 12-year-old days. So would you pick 12-year-old Julia Roberts or your neighbor girl?

This is a stupid question, because we all know that Julia Roberts is going to be the american sweetheart. But who knows, maybe your neighbor girl will be ten times sweeter one day. But today, most of us choose J. Roberts.

It is a stupid poll because you cannot take away hindersight knowledge.

Dream whithout a doubt , he was mutch more exciting to watch than either yao or shaq and he had to play against the officials to win a ring. shaq is a big bully who gets most of his points around the basket . and the verdict is still out on yao , i believe that whith his work ethic, smarts, and natural ability that he has all the potential of being better than both dream or shaq.

Dream is one of my favorite players, but looking at how Shaq played against Hakeem in his prime, I would have to go with Shaq. Dream didn't dominate Shaq at all, in fact out of all the matchups, Shaq played Hakeem the best. During the finals between the 2, Shaq actually had a better series, but Hakeems team won. If you could check the matchups from 92 till 97, most will find that Shaq got the best of Hakeem and his team won except for the finals. Hakeem is probably the best center from a offensive and defensive standpoint, but from pure dominance, Shaq probably is the best. By the time he's done, Shaq will be regarded as one of the best ever. No disrespect to Hakeem, but Shaq is a true freak of nature.
