Jeff, if your scenario is correct, I AGREE TOTALLY WITH YOU. It would be mindless to mortgage the near future chasing a Dream (REALLY BAD PUN). We can't get in a game of matching a mindless offer from another team. So it may be time to say so long; and it frees us to make some moves and rebuild the interior offense and defense in next couple of years.
So can anyone confirm have the Rockets offered 2 yrs/$20 mil? Seems like too much money for him to pass up. I don't know maybe he wants to go to the East and get away from Shaq & the Lakers.
has anyone figured out yet how the raptors could offer this? are they one of the teams not worried about the luxury tax? this seems to me to be the worst possible situation for the rockets: another reckless team coming in at the last minute to push the offer way up beyond what is reasonable. either team, if they make this deal [the one for at least 10 mil for multiple years], will regret it. ------------------ houston rockets = 2 utah jazz = 0
scary...anyone else kinda numb about this? ------------------ Rarely is the question asked: Guns kill squirrels than REDRUM to fools across the nation?
The Rockets won't have cap room for Duncan or Pierce. Francis will become a ~$11m cap hit going into that Summer. Now way we have max to spend on Duncan. give it up...
You're damn right we shouldn't sign him for 3 years. Why the hell would Dream want to play till he's 41. I know he thinks he can still play, but come on, who's this guy kidding? Does he want to be remembered like Robert Parish or like the man who dominated the Western Conference in the 90's? Two years is more than enough. If Toronto wants to give him 3 yrs, $15 million then fine. If he wants to go out like a chump, then let him. ------------------ "Oh No..." -Bill Walton in 97 just before Stockton's buzzer beater
Fox Sports is reporting that Dream will sign a multi-year contract with Toronto later this week! Sounds like the work of an agent! ------------------ I figure the odds be 50/50, I just might have something to say. [This message has been edited by mc mark (edited July 19, 2001).]
You caught that too crispee! I don't have a clue what that means. Will he sign tomorrow? Saturday!? This is getting weirder and weirder! Negotiations with Dream and Toronto seem to be serious though! ------------------ "Instruments are like women: After a while, you want to make love to another." - Nicolas Godin of the musical duo Air
I never liked those damn Canadians!!! I will freaking boo Dream if he leaves like this Too old , Too Old. ------------------ Reporter asks "How close were you to the victim?" Please Rockets, anything but this! Don't let him leave! Show Dream the money! ------------------ Protrolls.com! "I want to be like Olajon." -Sagana Diop has the right idea... Keep the ???? alive!
I say if Hakeem leaves with no S&T, to give the Rockets something in return (even 1/10th of what Toronto offered in '99), then we should all BOO Hakeem when he returns to Houston!!!! You know CD has offered that same 3 year - 15 million deal to keep Hakeem in Houston. Lets face it, if money was not the issue, then Hakeem is weak!!!!! and cannot handle the competition in the west, to make it back to the finals!!!! ------------------
Before people start trashing Dream, lets see how this plays out shall we? ------------------ I figure the odds be 50/50, I just might have something to say.
Hakeem will be trashed no matter what happens. ------------------ Protrolls.com! "I want to be like Olajon." -Sagana Diop has the right idea... Keep the ???? alive!
I've heard 3 years around $15 million from Toronto and 2 years around the same from Houston. Even $15 million from Houston would jeopardize re-signing some of our guys, but would probably make it possible if you started Taylor around $5.5 per season and gave early bird's to everyone else (cap guys???). I honestly believe, and I have nothing but gut telling me this, that this is an ego thing for Hakeem plain and simple. ------------------ How the hell should I know why God would allow the Holocaust. I think Rudy and CD have offered more money than the Raptors, but Hakeem just wants to play in the East. No Shaq, Duncan, Robinson, Webber, etc... Who knows, he could become the Marc Jackson of the East. I predict that around 3 PM tomorrow, the server will crash after Olajuwon signs with Toronto. ------------------ "Oh No..." -Bill Walton in 97 just before Stockton's buzzer beater
If Houston's willing to go 2 years I don't see why not 3, especially at a lower per-year contract. We're going to be capped out anyway by that point, so it hardly matters how much Dream's contract is at that point. ------------------ I'm so amazingly cool you could keep a side of meat in me for a month. first off, I agree with jeff; that this is very, very much about hakeem's ego. secondly, I'm having to remind myself that this is all the work of dan fegan. he is the one who is floating these reports to fox and whoever else that hakeem "is going" to sign such and such a contract. . . mind you, I don't know that for a fact, but I believe it to be the case. he's floating these reports so that houston will be forced to come with a better offer. he's just being an agent. that's what they do. earlier, someone said they hope we don't end up overpaying for hakeem. that is no longer an issue. we will end up overpaying for him if we pay for him at all. oh, and I also agree with the poster who posted about DAMNING THOSE CANADIANS. first, the damon stoudamire fiasco. next, the roger clemens fiasco. now, this. I have no use for toronto whatsoever. it is my sincere hope that vince carter will leave them because "they showed too much interest in all those other free agents last year [this year]", and that they'll then become the nashville raptors.
