CNN update: -- Senate Democrats cancel vote on DREAM Act, meaning the immigration measure is likely dead for the year.
Thinking out loud here.....but doesn't making them citizens now force them to pay taxes (as most conservatives believe that illegals are just leeches). IRS will have records on them, etc, etc. Instead of spending money trying to ship out 1% of them, why not make 100% of them pay their cover charge just like the rest of us. How are they changing the law? Illegals can't vote.
It will be brought up again sometime next week, which I'm OK with. What I'm not OK with is the mantra that the US is obligated to accept anyone who wants to move here, or that there's no such thing as too many immigrants. Hispanics want more Hispanics, Asians want more Asians, Muslims want more Muslims, Indians want more Indians, everyone wants more of their own, fine, sure, I understand, but we're damn near bursting at the seams, the job drain continues, we're running out of oil, the suburban way of life is coming to an end, our city resources are strained to the limits, yet we continue to accept, legally and otherwise, millions more each year. Enough!
they do have to complete highschool, and go to college or the military in order to be considered citizens in 10 yrs. (though they do get a green card right away -- i think). So it's not the guys hanging out at HomeDepot who'll become citizens. For those who want to argue economics, here are the data points from the original post:
Bad Example. Substitute UCLA or some other non private institute. Now what is your answer? Rocket River
the answer has always been residency. contributing to the community, paying local sales taxes, contributing to the local economy, ties to the community. Same answer for all in-state vs out-of-state differences. Whether that should be extended to those there illegally (though with documented attendance at local highschool), is a different discussion then what someone without those residency ties should pay.
I don't think illegal aliens should get subsidized tuition. In fact, if anyone other than citizens and permanent residents get subsidized tuition, they should be doing work for the school in excess of the value of the subsidy.
I'm from India and also a Muslim. I couldn't care less about having more Indians or Muslims in the country. Calm down bubba.
i wonder if any other country in the world have such privilege for people entering their country illegally...
If you want irony, take a look at Mexico. They have some very restrictive immigration policies, yet scream bloody murder whenever we consider even the mildest forms of immigration enforcement. Unbelievable.
Are the illegal immigrants who take advantage of the U.S. education system and other benefits of our country required to register for the draft or do they get to skirt that?
Sorry but you don't know what you are talking about. I had a conversation with a Mexican Immigration lawyer who worked for the government in iimigration the last time I was in Mexico. I could go down to Mexico and become a citizen (not a permanent resident) in two years with no previous connection to the country. Fox News?
