Draymond Green is no longer 'just' a rotational player; he is at least a starter in this league and may even be better. This year, he has beasted defensively (like he always does), and now he's averaging 13.3 pts, 7.7 rebs, 3.1 asts, 1.2 stls, and 1.1 blks per game in just 32 minutes. He is shooting 45.5% overall and 36.7% from 3 (4.9 attempts per game). Needless to say, he's becoming at least a "super-role player" with potential to be better. Draymond Green is 6'7, but he has a 7'2 wingspan, so he's only slightly undersized. His strength makes him a very capable, if not elite defender at the 3/4 spots. If he can keep up his shooting, he'll be a stretch 4 w/ excellent defense. With the upcoming increase in salary cap, he'll be looking for a huge payday. I think he'll get somewhere around Faried's contract, if not more. I'll say his value is around 4 years, $50 million right now (of course if his 3 point shooting gets under 33%, his value takes a hit). If the Warriors don't make any moves, their next year's team salary will be around $82 million ($78 million if Speights opts out). Basically, David Lee (around $15 million this year and next year) or Iggy (around $12 million per year x 3 more years) needs to go. I'm just not sure if they're going to able to trade them at this point. Anyway, what do you think the Warriors should do and how much do you think Draymond Green is worth?
If everybody is getting overpaid, doesnt that mean that getting 8m = underpaid? He's going to get 4yr/44m, and he's worth that money if you ask me.
I thought David Lee was expiring this summer but I believe Klay is up for an extension as well so I think it will come down to if both players are looking to get the maximum pay day would they be willing to lose Green for nothing? I am pretty sure they would be willing to give the bigger deal to Klay.
Don't forget, Harrison Barnes and Speights are due for an extension the following season as well. It should definitely factor into their decisions about Green and even Lee this offseason. Bottom line, I see Lee getting dumped sooner rather than later.
Would Rockets pickup Lee for peanuts? He's averaged 18 points, 10 boards and 3 assist over the last 3 seasons shooting over 50% while staying relatively healthy. If he's cheap I wouldn't mind.
This! And to me he is worth it! He is a D and 3 type player with the heart of Patrick Beverly @ the 4 position. My dream PF for our current team.
It will be more than that and the Warriors will be unable to keep him. Remember the Parsons and Hayward contracts this past summer. Green will certainly get more if he keeps performing on offense.
Draymond would be glorious with PBev, Dwight, and Ariza the defense would be unreal plus he can stretch the floor.
So you would start him here at PF? Interesting thought. That would probably work against most teams but Blake, Z-Bo, AD, LMA and a couple others would feast on the Rockets.
He starts at PF already and does a pretty good job. Much like our (healthy) starting lineup, only 3 out of 5 of their starters are known for defense yet the team is doing a solid job on that end. A 3 and D player at the PF spot? No doubt he's in for a pay day.
I think David Lee could be traded. Toronto could use an improvement at power forward to make a final title push this season. David Lee for Chuck Hayes and Amir Johnson works financially for both teams. Johnson and Hayes off the books this year.
Everybody knows David Lee while a productive player isn't worth his contract. The only team(s) interested in him will either (A) not care about salary and want a competitive team or (B) want to pick up assets in exchange for taking on a salary dump. I see the Kings or Lakers falling into category A. The Kings could offer Golden State any two out of Jason Thompson, Derrick Williams and Carl Landry. These guys all have smaller salaries and would likely be easier to move and Derrick Williams expires this year. The Lakers could offer Nash's expiring contract. As far as category B, of course the Sixers are always in play to take on salary in exchange for picks.
I believe that GS will have a salary, after the luxury tax, of ~$102M next season. My guess is that they ditch Lee for a stale bag of Doritos.
He looks/acts like he doesn't know how to read. I also wouldn't pay Green ****. He benefits from playing next to 2 elite shooters.
