Exactly, drawing cartoons is not against the law, or their own beliefs.

I understand people being offended, the answer to them is just to ignore it or not bother looking at it.

The responses by B-Bob (for commenting without even having read the OP and then saying he has zero sympathy), Major and pouhe are mind-boggling.

I mind because I think it is disingenuous, you seem to have picked this position only for the sake of arguing on this BBS. But I'd be happy to listen to you explain why you would have stopped being a Muslim all of a sudden.

It is very clear (and understandable) that she is scared of the threat of Islamist terror, and that this influenced her later statements.

Do you disagree? You don't think it is significant to her?

I am saying what I think B-Bob meant, as you asked. And it looks like B-Bob thought this story was about the Danish cartoonist.

In general, if you are asking my opinion and not B-Bob's, people have responsibility for the predictable consequences of their choices.

No doubt. But even then, I would disagree with him.

You are telling me that I'm Muslim and would be 'happy' to listen to me try to refute it?

FYI, the only evidence we have is that the authorities scared her by mentioning the Islamists.. not the Islamists directly. But I guess it's possibly you are also right.

About your last question, no I don't think it's significant to her. I think this is a small part of her life and she doesn't care about it very much. It is completely insignificant to her. Why would she care about going into a protection program? Besides, her life is unimportant in the grans struggle against those who slander the Prophet of Islam.

No, but I don't see the point of you playing little games by suddenly claiming you are not a Muslim.

Anyway, I'm a Muslim then .

What was the BBS triple crown again? Is being quoted in a signature part of it?

That's great, but the key difference between us is that I don't care what you are. I treat you like everyone else - based on actions.

How is that a difference? You think I don't? All I know is what you post here. There was some intelligent stuff and some complete crap. So I commend you (or rep you) when you post something good, and I criticize you when you post crap (like when you said you want the Danish cartoonist to live in fear for the rest of his life).

    No kidding.

There were a few folks from up north in the mid-60's who had the bright idea to go to Mississippi and tell them they needed to change a few things. Those northerners wound up dead.

I guess they should have kept their traps shut. You know; being instigators and all. Guess they got what they deserved for sticking up for the rights of others. How dare they.

Um, yeah: this thread = serious business.

my main point stands, and it was completely ignored, in favor of glomming onto which cartoonist did what.

I was replying, you may note, to a poster (and not you). Saying "we Christians don't get mad when people draw Jesus" when we ourselves make velvet paintings and cheesy holograms of Jesus is not a valid argument against muslims being offended by drawings of Muhammad. I hope that would make sense, so I thought it was worth underlining.

I stand corrected on the Seattle cartoonist, and I do feel sorry for that person genuinely, caught between extremists on both sides: the Islamic extremists and those that want to poke Islam in the eye at every opportunity extremists.

Please accept my apologies for ever offering a different viewpoint from yours in one of your Islam-is-the-worstest threads. I think I can just stay out of them from here on. Cheers.

So, which victims of the violation of what rights violation are people like ATW trying to protect? People in the West whose rights to say things offensive to Muslims are being seriously violated like the civil and human rights of black people were violated in the South during Jim Crow?

    Seriously?

Are peple like ATW trying to promote change in the Muslim world and protect some minorities or women in the Arab/Muslim world by promoting draw Mohmammed Day? Are they trying to make life of people (or of certain people) better over there? Sorry, I don't see it. I don't see how people like ATW even cares about making life better for anyone. Some peple, like Shirin Ebadi, are genuinely trying to make a change.

ATW and his kind, on the other hand, appear to simply enjoy doing things that promote violent reactions from some Muslims so that they can say "See how violent and backward those people are?!"

Yeah, there are a good number of those violent and backward Muslims out there. You made your point. Go celebrate or something. And by the way, we knew that already. Now what?

Interestingly thin-skinned response for someone who likes to present himself as the funny man (and is often good at it, I may note).

If that is your main point, it is a very weak one. You try to reduce the discussion to saying "followers of different religions are offended by different things". Then tell me one thing that would prompt (perceived) leaders of Christians, Buddhists or other non-Muslims to issue death threats, and people to act on them in recent history. It doesn't need to be a cartoon.

It's ludicrous to equate "Islamic extremists" (who murder people, etc.) and "those who [supposedly] want to poke Islam in the eye extremists" (who dare to criticize violent excesses and intolerance, and who do not kill or physically harm anyone). If you consider murderers and those who speak up against them equal, then perhaps you should not only re-read the original post, but you should educate yourself a bit more in general before you post again.

As I said, educate yourself - which at least means reading before you start talking nonsense - otherwise yes, you better remain silent. You are too intelligent to waste that intelligence on making yourself look like a fool, like you did with your first post in this thread.

Even though your sentence was a little bit difficult to understand due to poor wording (you probably got a little too excited there), consider this: Molly (the cartoonist who spoke up and whose life is now under threat) did what she did merely because she wanted to protest a death threat against the South Park creators. That was enough to get her death threats and for her to have to change her name and to assume a new identity. She didn't even draw their "prophet".

If you think that is nothing to worry about, it just shows that you don't understand. Intimidation works for them, and if people do not speak up, they will continue to pursue this strategy. Of course, if you do not care about free speech, then you do not see the issue.

No, they are trying to defend free speech in the civilized world against Islamists trying to intimidate people into not daring to exercise their right to free speech anymore.

As I said, if you don't think having freedom of speech from intimidation with death threats makes people's life better, then it is not an issue for you. Right...it does not affect you - yet - so you don't see it.

    ^^ Holy **** now I get it!

I was feeling so scared about losing my freedom of speech before all this happened. Now I feel so much safer and freer thanks to you brave people! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Now we are finally free of those Islamists! What bunch of ****ing heroes, eh?

Right, I am sure Molly and the Danish cartoonist (and, by the way, everyone who works for the newspaper in Denmark in which his cartoon appeared first, they just narrowly escaped another bombing because the bomber was stupid enough to only hurt himself, http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-11345887) and all the people whose life and rights are threatened by extremists find you ridiculing what is happening to them really funny, too.

well it doesn't say anything in the bible about not drawing the prophets face, and although it doesn't explicitly forbid the drawing of the prophets face there are hadiths that ban it.

it is supposed to protect the religion from idolatry, they believe only God should be worshiped, not Muhammad or Jesus
