Yup. That new slaughterhouse album is the real deal, at least when it comes to rhyming. All four can rap their asses off (pause). Cut You Loose is my new favorite song at the moment.

I hear songs like this where Eminem has a verse, and I'm reminded why I went through a period of my musical life where listened to nothing but him. The guy can be so damn good when he wants to be.

Nice by Ortiz. I first got word of the dude back in 07 when he dropped "Hip Hop" and I was impressed. Hopefully his star keeps rising.

 Eminem sucked in this song.. it sounded like he couldn't find the rhythm of the beat. Patiently Waiting was probably the best I've heard Em.

I will respectfully disagree on this song and agree that Patiently Waiting is awesome (I'd have to listen through all his stuff again to state which of his tunes is his best).

Just another reason why this young crop of rappers fall short.

This vid's from Funkmaster Flex's radio show. Mind you, some of the illest freestyles ever have been done on this show.

Drake + Freestyle = Blackberry apparently

Dude can write some nice rhymes but he seems out of his element when he's hanging with some real cats

He couldn't find the beat??

Perhaps you're getting confused by the portion of his verse where he decided to rhyme not only the last word of each line but, also, the first.

I'll add this as well. It's been nice looking at the music threads on this board the last few weeks. Maino's "All the Above" was a good one too :)

I hope he's saving it for Relapse 2. While Relapse was good, I know he can do much better.

I don't even really listen to hip hop that much anymore, but I can still listen to some old Em on a Dre beat and be like "damn"

He's just new to the game, I like the way he just sits back and does his own thing. He doesn't seem like some of these doofs that want to be in the limelight 24/7 and steal peoples shine, ya know.

I thought Relapse sucked...did not like the accent he put on in his songs...he wouldve rapped normally, it wouldve been better

That's what I was thinking. His flow was off. Some people don't mind that, though. Andre 3000 doesn't always ride the beat but people love his stuff. I'm not a big fan of the rhymes that sound like they weren't written with the beat in mind. Em probably would have sounded great on whatever beat he wrote those rhymes to...I guarantee you that wasn't it.

I don't hate the 'I'm a great rapper' rhymes but I just don't place it that much higher than the 'I'm a killer/drug dealer' rhymes. About a minute of that Ortiz rhyme was great (when he was discussing the state of hip hop, trying to get a record deal, etc.) the rest of it was good 'I'm a great rapper' rhymes.
That doesn't bother me much. No one really freestyle's anymore. It is all written. He just didn't memorize those rhymes yet.

His flow wasnt off at all. There was one part where he had to squeeze in some words tho but overall sick flow. "Back in to the game and they know rap will never be the same as before" Thats the only part where it might sound like hes "off".

Hate to correct you but a lot of cats still freestyle man. And yeah you're right, it really shouldn't bother me much either but when he comes onto the show knowing they want him to freestyle and (even though it's not recorded at the beginning of the clip) he announces that he's about to freestyle.....at some point, you have to come off of the top of the head with it, not sit there aimlessly scrolling through your "rhymebook" on your blackberry.

Maybe because I've been involved in this hip hop thing for so long (I started producing, dj'ing and had a home studio when I was 14 in 1987, and still going strong BTW) but I still "expect" more (or used to expect more)......it just seems like the bar has been lowered on too many things now-a-days :(
