    There is also a valid reason why trade value goes down as time goes on. Because for these upcoming free agents we are talking about, there's just not a lot of value left in the contract. We're talking 30 games plus maybe the playoffs. In the offseason, the player can walk.

    I think Ainge messed up a bit by not waiting till the trade deadline when he could perhaps have gotten more, but it probably doesn't make a huge difference either way.

    The real issue is for someone like Dragic, or Rondo, or someone similar, is these are guys who are probably just outside the top 10 of their position, where guys 8-18 are all REALLY close, and are upcoming free agents, playing for teams that they probably don't want to stay on. Contenders already have better or comparable players. Lotto teams aren't trading any young valuable players or picks for a free agent that.

    There's just not a ton of legitimate suitors. The Lakers would love to have Dragic... but there's no way they trade anything of real value for him. sure, they'd trade their unprotected first this year for DeMarcus Cousins... nto for Dragic.

    If the Suns are open to trading him, the Rockets will have their chance to get him.
